Movie Posters: The History of Cinema from the Origins to the Present

Beautifully printed selection of posters of some of the greatest fims from Cabiria (1914) to Phantom Thread (2017), it also turns to be an overview of the history of cinema. A feast.

This was largely a disappointment. A handsomely produced volume, it gives space to entirely too many overfamiliar images, and the text is rather pat. Pricey let-down.

It’s ok, with full colour pages, but it doesn’t have many posters after 1980-2000. It’s mostly 1930s-1960s, probably the authors more favourite times, or perhaps issues with recent copyright. But only disappointment not many recent movies here.
