Also, the author does not try to sound cool or condescending. He just covers what you need to know in a way that shows he loves music. Better than the other introductory books I've seen. I'm not a music teacher, but it seems to me this would be a great accompaniment to lessons after someone has been playing for a few weeks. Review: A must have - This is an amazing book and is filled with different genres, examples of how to play them, techniques; grooves and so on. You will need to know how to read sheet music however. I am using this in conjunction with another teaching method as this book fills in many blanks with regard to musical styles. This is not a theory book. A bit of theory is covered but that is not the main topic. The most wonderful part of the book are the various styles from around the world with full illustrations that are also on the accompanying CDs.
