The Happy Prince And other Tales

A good read and perfect story book for children ! !
"There is no mystery so great as misery”. — Oscar Wilde.'The Happy Prince And Other Tales' by Oscar Wilde is a collection of five short stories —1. The Happy Prince2. The Nightangle And The Rose3. The Selfish Giant4. The Devoted Friend5. The Remarkable RocketOut of five stories, I liked the first, second and fourth story much. Each story had a good moral. The only reason why I love reading Wilde’s work is the way he writes and his descriptive words ! And to be very honest this was my only motive to read this book. Otherwise, this book is all of fantasy and fairytale things & I am not at all fan of fantasy novels. If I talk from reading perspective, yes I did enjoyed reading the book just because of the descriptions and the hidden messages which a reader gets while reading the stories. [You can gift this book or you can readout this book to your younger brother or sister ( 5–10/11years ) as they may enjoy it and the language is very easy to read & understand.] Overall, I would rate it 4⭐/5⭐

Nice collection
This contains five of the best stories of Oscar Wilde. Worth a read for The Happy Prince, The Selfish Giant and The Nightingale and the rose. I love all these stories.

Must read short stories for children and adults
I recommend these stories to be read to children. Each story is a fairy tale that presents the hard realities in a soft manner, and leaves the children to ponder about helping others, love, friendship, and being nice to others.

Fairy tales for older people!
These are excellent stories, but meant for older people. I have read them number of times, but still like to read them again and again!

A sweet little book
The product arrived in perfect condition. The book is about the size of your hand, if not a little bigger. Text is clear and in a perfectly readable font. The stories themselves are whimsical and beautiful.

Very Interesting
It was very fun to read. One of the most Interesting and famous collection of stories by Oscar Wild. Really liked it. It is a must read. Language is simple and can be read by adults as well as children. I has 5 stories all with a different plot each time. Would recommend this book to everyone!

A terrible translation of Wilde's stories from another language into English.
Do not buy this book!!! It is a very dodgy ( digitally generated?) translation with non- standard grammatical issues every other line. Oscar Wilde would be turning in his grave.Amazon make it so hard to return digital orders that I've given up trying. A poor experience all round.

The Happy Prince and Other Tales
The Happy Prince: 5*The Nightingale and the Rose: 3*The Selfish Giant: 5*The Devoted Friend: 2.5*The Remarkable Rocket: 4*On the whole, I loved these short stories by Oscar Wilde, as with everything I have read by him so far!The previous short story I read by him, The Canterville Ghost, had a very different feel to these stories. These short stories read more like fairy tales and fables and I absolutely loved them.I would definitely recommend reading this collection and I can't wait to read more of Oscar Wilde's work!

I loved this book and I loved all the stories within ...
The book I read was bought 2nd hand from a book shop. This is one of those timeless classics that can be read by adults or too children.I loved this book and I loved all the stories within it, but I couldn’t help noticing a recurring theme throughout. There seems to be an extraordinary lack of faith in humans. Most of these tales contain hard and unfeeling characters that disregard the fragile feelings of others. Some are moral tales, the recurring moral being that life is tough and people are tougher. Sometimes the moral seems to be that ignorance is bliss.Perhaps this is just my interpretation of it.This book portrays the harsh reality of people, there is no fluffy story telling and some of the stories are downright heartbreaking. The tale of the happy prince and The Nightingale and Rose are very poignant and leave you wanting to cry out,“No! This cannot be!”The stories themselves are beautifully written I would recommend that anyone should read these stories, young or old.

The little boy who cried, "The Emperor is naked!"
Oscar Wild was the little boy who cried, "The Emperor is naked!" As much as such little boys deserve to be heard, they're a thorn in society's flesh. In those days, such "little boys" didn't fare very well, and were pushed into the fringes. Vincent Von Gogh was one such little boy, whom the establishment of his time would have been the better for listening to, and we know what happened to him. The same could be said about Oscar Wild.I first read this collection of short stories when I was about 18, and they delighted me. My favorite was, and still is, The Selfish Giant, which has been made more than once into a short animated film, and more recently into a feature length movie. He did know his theology, but also how to apply it. He knew how to see past all the religious trappings, and see the heart of the One it's all about. And he does it with a the style of a storyteller with a sense of humour.

A lovely edition
(NB this is a review of the Everyman's Classic edition!) In a world of kindles it is ever more important that children learn to engage with books as things of beauty, to be treasured as objects as well as doors to other worlds. This Everymans Classics series bids fair to do just that. The books are nicely made with glowing cloth covers and lovely pictures on the cover. They feel good to handle and will be the highlight of many a bookshelf. Well done Everyman! As for the Happy Prince - of course every child should read him and every adult re-read him. The stories, while full of beautiful images, have such an acute ability to tell us about the cruelty of the world and the consolations life offers. The image of the Happy Prince, stripped of his finery and the dead sparrow at his feet never fails to make me come over all weepy!
