Delightful story
I really liked the main characters. They're complex and so perfect for each other. The story is full of adventure and I enjoyed the characters I met in previous books.

No Longer a Gentleman: Grey and Cassie
Having met her earlier in the series, I loved reading Cassie's story. She was such a woman ahead of her time.I expected this story to be sadder, what with the themes of loss and wrongful imprisonment. But the author balances the necessary moments of pathos with plenty of gaiety and steam.I hope this couple is revisited in other books of the series because I'm curious whether they can pull off a quiet and rural HEA after all their adventures.

Didn't like this as well, but a good story
The book pace was slower than the previous book. I'd also call this a five Kleenex tissues story. There is enough tragedy and sorrow to bring the reader to tears many times!! Love does triumph in the end but I was very irritated with parts of the story. Why in 20 years didn't she write to her cousins and uncle in England? And 10 years in a cell sounded too long to be realistic for the crime involved. Several key points where I disagreed with the author.Contains 18+ mature reader sexual contentSet during French Revolution and Napoleon ruleI'd skip this one if you're reading the series!!All of her books are roughly 300-400 pages and generally well placed and action filled. You do get your money's worth!

Truly a lost lord
Greydon Sommers, Lord Wyndham, was presumed dead after Waterloo, although his friends and fellow operatives continued to search for him. He was held in solitary confinement in France for ten years. Cassie Fox, expert operative, volunteered to investigate the latest rumor, verify and rescue. By sheer willpower, he had imposed discipline, order, and resolve onto his solitary existence, thereby preserving his sanity and forging a strong and utterly honorable personality, but felt unable to cope with his old life and society - and no longer willing to deal with the world the same way. He needed Cassie to help him return to his old life and transform it.This is not a simple love story. It is intense, with finely-drawn characters and a plot that refuses to slow down. I've read it twice, now, and will return to it again. There is brutality, and violence, as well as nobility and valor, righteousness and honorable resolution. All of the Lost Lords are uniquely compelling, and Grey and Cassie's story is among these.

The best MJ Putney since "The Rake"!!!
I'm so happy I put this book at the top of my reading list. I have enjoyed the Lost Lords series, but was missing the emotional heft that Mary Jo Putney brought to my all-time favorite historical, The Rake. Then came Grey and Cassie. They made me FEEL so much. And let's admit it--sometimes you just want a good cry. Grey was so vulnerable with Cassie, and yet so charming and playful. I could have continued reading their story for many more pages. The one thing I would like to have seen a little more of was Cassie bearing her soul to Grey. I don't think she really shared her emotional motivation behind her becoming a spy. She told Grey the physical aspects of her ordeal, but not of her fear and shame. I would like to have read more of that.Overall though, a fantastic read and terrific continuation of the Lost Lords series. Can't wait for Kirkland's story!!!

Liberty
I love a slow build up and a dynamite finish. This book has both of those qualities. I fell in love with the characters, Grey and Cassie. I was hoping that Cassie was more than she appeared. I became a cheer leader for Grey. The ending was perfect.

Master of the genre
I have long admired this author and have enjoyed many of her novels. This one is particularly fine in plot, structure and characterisation. Her hero and heroine are three dimensional, with backgrounds which make their present situation far more believable. Imprisoned for ten years Grey's personality undergoes a significant change which make him a better man and you can see this happening throughout his incarceration and of course afterwards. Cassie, similarly, has demons to fight and they mesh with the problems Grey has in being absorbed into his previous life. I can't stress how much the author has done her research even calling the county Dorset by its old name of Dorsetshire. The story rips along and you root for both of them until the end, cannot recommend this page turner enough. Well done Mary Jo.

Definately still a gentleman
I really enjoyed this book .It was the first by Mary Jo that I had read and definately won't be the last. The plot moved along quickly and kept me turning the pages.Cassie the heroine was a complex character that you had to root for and Grey developed steadily from what appeared to be a spoilt little rich boy to a man of great character even if he didn't entirely believe in himself.Mary Jo took time developing him over the years of his imprisonment and although that might seem to go on a bit you needed to read that to understand him later.Their escape across France a real page turner.
