60 Minute Kitchen Timer (Tomato)

Great little timer! Perfect for the Pomodoro Productivity Technique! Just a note though, if the ringer doesn't ring, it probably means that the timer isn't fully winded up. If it doesn't ring, set the timer to the max time for 55 minutes, twice. That fixed the problem for me.

This might be one of the worst Amazon purchases for me in the last 10 years. I knew this product wouldn't be full of "bells & whistles". Quite frankly, I bought it for it's perceived simplicity; an old-school twist timer is all that I needed.I expected some kind of basic weight to it and to AT LEAST work. It was cheap, flimsy, clunky and when the timer ended, no bell. Nothing. Zilch. Zero.I filed for the return and I believe I missed the date (as I can't seem to process it.) To make matters worse, I swear shipping was covered under Prime, as I rarely buy anything that doesn't benefit me with Prime shipping. So I got dinged for shipping.So, at the end of the day, I spent $10 on a worthless and I mean WORTHLESS piece of flimsy plastic shaped like a pear. Unbelievable.

I received a tomato timer back in 1991. Used it for everything from timing food, to a reminder to leave the house so I wouldn’t be late. Used it for my children’s time outs, how long they had to read each night and many other helpful things. I used it continuously even now that I am a grandmother. It just broke one day after 31 years using it almost daily. My little granddaughters cried because I had always let them set it for timing. Of course unlike my kids, never for time outs! When I came across this after two years since it broke, I was elated and ordered it right away. When it arrived I waited to let my granddaughters open it and they shrilled in excitement! So definitely I will say it is a FANTASTIC value! AMAZON comes in as a HERO once again!

How can I judge thickness and sheerness? Anyway: it didn’t work. Period. But I was sick and didn’t get it returned in time. I eventually got a plain white one.

I bought this for my mother to replace an older timer she had loved for years. When it arrived, it was the wrong color (the seller sent a green pepper instead of a red one), but that one was returned and replaced. She was happy that they are still made, but a little disappointed as the ringer is not as loud or as long as her other one used to be. The one it is replacing was purchased about thirty years ago and they were probably better made then. I should note that it has been about a year since I purchased this new one and it is still working just fine.There is no battery or electric powering this timer, it is powered by turning it, much like certain toys or older clocks. As another kind reviewer has mentioned, you do have to twist the timer beyond the 30 minute mark to 'wind' it before you set it to the time you want in order for it to work properly. My mom said her old one was the same way so that is not a defect that is just the way this type of timer works. But I would recommend trying it when you receive so you can get it replaced if you do get one that doesn't work - Amazon has excellent customer service!It is a lot louder than some of the other products on the market and if you are in the same room you should be able to hear it just fine. Personally I like the ringer better than the annoying sound of digital beeps that are all too often too faint or short. And it is nice to have something that will work when the power goes out.

It's cute and probably works well. But I bought it as a joke gift for my husband who jokes about the Kroger commercials all the time and the timer tomatoes there.
