It's an industry standard for a reason
I am a clockmaker and clock repairman so I work with 300-year-old clocks and clocks I have just created with my bare hands. This works great to keep brass and steel from tarnishing for a good amount of time. Other forms of protection are lacquer and electroplating, the former often goes wrong and is impossible to touch up, and the latter is extremely expensive. microcrystalline wax is by far the best option for the work I do. It will protect from tarnishing for several months up to a few years and you can just touch it up as time goes on, its very easy to apply, I recommend a microfiber cloth, a little goes a long way

Worth the price
I bought this product in an effort to preserve my '30s vintage Victor jack plane. I had been using paste wax to keep the rust away up till now, and have been mostly successful. The problem is, I use that plane frequently, averaging several times a week. I simply wear the wax off the tool in use. I applied the Renaissance Wax ( and I believe the polish is a misprint, this wax has no abrasive action that I can detect ) and was met with several surprises. First, the Ren Wax lifted the paste wax from the wooden handles. I had to constantly move my finger in the application rag because my fingertip would get clogged with paste wax that was being removed. Once the paste wax was removed, and the new Ren Wax applied, the buff rewarded me with nearly new looking handles. I was astonished at how beautiful the handles were, especially since I've owned the plane for years and never noticed. With the handles looking new, I moved on to the base. Again, the application of Ren Wax would remove the paste wax that was embedded in the cast iron body. After some time working a spot, the metal would be visibly cleaner and brighter than the surrounding metal. It took some time to wax the body, but in the end, the tool looks almost new. Inspired by success, I disassembled the plane completely, cleaned and waxed everything, including the screws ( the brass screws in the handles are particularly stunning now ). I simply cannot believe it's the same tool. I then waxed all my wood chisels, power tools, and workbench top. Sawdust no longer sticks to the tools now, and the finish appears to be much more durable than the paste wax ever was. I'll get around to waxing the table saw top, but that will be an all day project. In summary, I have tested this product on the following materials with outstanding results:Finished and unfinished woodCast ironTool steelSteelStainless steelChrome platingBrassAluminumPlasticRubberLeatherPainted surfaces ( probably enamel )I have found no issues with the product. Some complain about the scent, I found it to be much less invasive than paste wax, although I was in the garage with the doors open. It is true that you need to use the tiniest speck of wax you can get. I found that you wrap you application rag around your finger, and merely touch the surface of the wax, that's plenty. Two of those doses is enough to get complete coverage on a 2.75 inch by 12 inch plane base. The majority of time spent was cleaning the old wax/oil/grease from the tools. The time required for the application of wax and buff were insignificant overall. Other waxes "haze" but this one doesn't appear to work that way. It seems that you simply apply the wax, grab your buff rag and buff it. No waiting. To be honest, I was skeptical about the marketing hype, about how this product can be used on "everything" with no drawbacks. However, in practice, it appears to work exactly that way. I couldn't find anything that didn't benefit from a coat of Ren Wax.

Used by museums and conservationists around the world...and me
Renaissance Wax was originally developed for the British Museum in London to revitalize and protect their antiques and artifacts. It's a microcrystalline wax that is acquired as a part of the petroleum refinery process. Fortunately, it's also available for regular home use to guard our own valuable possessions from the damaging effects of humidity, heat, dust, environmental destruction, aging and ordinary wear. With its high moisture resistance, it forms a barrier against the above mentioned threats while forming a durable, lustrous finish. It can be used on wood, metal, leather, stone, and many other finished surfaces. Renaissance Wax leaves no sticky surface and also doesn't take fingerprints as easily as many other waxes. I also love that it doesn't stain or discolor over time. While I have used it on several of our more valuable antiques pieces, I primarily use it as a protective finish for metal work (both jewelry and other artistic works) as well as a wax coating for some oil paintings. NOTE: If you're using it as a final finish for oil paintings, the paint should have at least 6-9 months to dry (longer if thick impasto) and it should have a finished coat of varnish applied/cured prior to wax application. On jewelry and other metalwork, it prevents tarnish and corrosion. On older pieces, it first cleans by lifting dirt and remnants of other waxes leaving the surface with a thin, hard protective film. It's wonderful on shiny metal finishes such as drawer pulls and helps them to maintain their shine and not oxidize. Conversely, on those metal pieces that have been oxidized with a beautiful patina (either naturally or artificially), this wax protects that appearance to prevent the look from altering.Just so some of you don't get a big surprise when you order this and it arrives, that's not a typo on the product page...this Renaissance Wax comes in a tiny 2.25 oz. container. So, yes, it IS expensive...but I feel that it's worth paying the extra for something that works so well and is used by museums around the world. The only downside is the smell, but that gradually begins to disappear about 24 hours after application.

End result is very good
The polish goes on easily and looks good after it has been buffed. It does have a strong smell at first, but the smell goes away after a day or two. I used it on a wooden tabletop and a leather shoulder bag.

Great rust prevention for carbon steel
A friend recommend this to me. I use it on an every day carry damascus knife. Believe me, ive tried all kinds of products to try to keep the gulf coast rust off. From petroleum based to all natural. Always disappointed. This stuff is amazing. I just rub a light layer maybe once a month. I haven't had any more corrosion problems.

A little goes a long way, looks great
This was easy to apply with a microfiber cloth. The petroleum smell isn't that strong. This is a huge sculpture and I only used about 1/8th of the 65ml smallest container. It's plenty to do the job and it's easy to work with. I would recommend this.
