Gymnastics (Summer Olympic Sports) Paperback – February 2, 2016

Good overview of gymnastics for elementary aged kids. Could have more bio info for more of the current gymnasts, though.

The photos are lovely, but I ended up returning this. I was looking for an intro to gymnastics book for my 6yo nephew, but all of the intro/picture books I found featured girl gymnasts. I took a chance on this one since there was a picture of rings (equipment boys use) on the cover, but inside I found twice as many photos of girls than boys. In addition, I found the written content to be way too elementary for his age, with phrases like "Leah has the best score!" and "Kira is on the balance beam. She hops. She turns. She does not fall." I think it's more appropriate for a younger child. (NOTE: The product details list this appropriate for a 4-6 year old child whereas the School Library Journal review says it's for Grades 2-4--that's quite a discrepancy!)

Bought for a friend's granddaughter. She is 8 years old gymnast and loved it.
