Western Digital Black WD5000LPSX 500 GB Hard Drive - 2.5" Internal - SATA (SATA/600)

I have been using & installing Western Digital drives for over 20 Years, Failure rate is very low, Their speed is good, When I have had to warranty them out it is simple compared to ither brands, The WD Black has been the best out of all WD drives except for their enterprise drives.

I buy WD for almost all of my computer needs !

I purchased this WD5000LPSX on Amazon on February 7, 2024. The Amazon listing said it had the manufacturer's five-year limited warranty. This warranty should extend into 2029. I registered it on the WD "warranty registration site" on March 15, 2024. I then checked the WD "warranty status" site. It said the warranty would expire on July 3, 2026. THAT IS NOT FIVE YEARS. The warranty was misrepresented by the seller in the Amazon listing. UPDATE: 1) I have requested WD to extend the warranty to the full 5 years. Took quite a bit of effort - had to send WD a copy of the Amazon invoice and a photograph of the drive showing the s/n. I am not confident they will extend the coverage. I will again update my review with the result. 2) In March I purchased 3 more WD5000LPSX directly from the WD on-line store. They were a little cheaper, AND when I registered them with WD I got the full five-year warranty coverage. Lesson learned....better to buy WD products directly from WD.UPDATE 2: As I expected, WD would not give me the 5-year warranty. Here is part of the WD reply:" According to our records, serial number XXXXXXXXXX purchased indicates the Build Date was Apr-28-2021 and your Purchase Date was Feb-07-2024. The drive was purchased nearly three years after the manufacture date.However, even if you bought the drive from Amazon, it was sold by third party seller (its a deal!) where there is no assurance how they acquired the drive that was sold to you. This is unfortunate risk buying from online third party sellers. The warranty date remains and continues to be the current warranty period if there is any, even if the customer purchases one of these drives from a retailer and/or private party."My conclusion: The seller "its a deal" misrepresented the warranty in their Amazon listing. As the WD reply said, there is no way of knowing how and when they obtained the drive. Thus, WD gave a warranty for five years from the 2021 manufacturing date. On 19 Mar I bought three more drives from the WD store (that makes a total of six), and received them on 25 Mar. I immediately registered them, and got the full 5-year warranty. Lesson learned.

Works fine out of the "box" (its for a PS4 PRO (used as external drive). The only con is that it came barely protected when shipped so it could get damaged on transit. Other than that good drive for consoles.

Seller don't say of that disk is preformatted with a hidden partition to install Windows 10 (Lenovo)

Ordered two drives from the main listing (looked like Amazon, but was a third party) that took one week to arrive. Get the package opened, open one (Mfr. Date 23-May-2021). Click-click-click-click. Sure enough, DOA. That's fine, DOA drives happen, I go to check the S/N (WX22A215P8KC) on WD.com. Far from the "5 Year Warranty" advertised, WD says: "No Limited Warranty. Product was originally sold to a system manufacturer. Please contact the system manufacturer or the place of purchase for warranty service."At this point, I got in touch with Amazon to process a return because it's clear the third party sellers are reselling OEM goods and not actually new equipment. Double check the seller on your purchase!

I'm very disappointed. I expected new drives but these were not even in manufacturer packaging which makes me suspect these are used and not new.
