Reliable, Affordable, Secure. Don't settle for less.
I recommend this lock, the Master 2001, as the best gym lock. It's great for other uses too, within reason. The Master 2001 is safer than the bestselling/ubiquitous/scholastic Master 1500 series, whose reviews are hilarious. But basically, this Master 2001 removes you from the feeding frenzy on those poor 1500's.Although $20 is more than you expected to spend, you won't regret the small investment.Pros:How it makes you feel. My workouts rock because I have confidence in my lock; I can focus forward. It's intimidating to attackers, especially in a locker room full of lesser locks. It can also signal you're street smart, thus you didn't bring anything worth stealing, without looking expensive.Opens and closes reliably. It's tough. No holes or gaps to exploit, unlike multi-dial combo locks. No shimming. No key to carry or lose. It's coolIt's affordableIt always fits in lockers I've used, including 24-Hour Fitness and YMCA locations. (Another reviewer had a problem with his work locker)No known vulnerabilities.Cons:Clicks at the 3rd number, making the 3rd number meaningless. Perplexing, but inconsequential in the real world.HeavyNot the cheapest option (if you're naive). It can signal that you have good taste and nice things. If stuck/forgot combo, it would be a pain to force open.Bonus thoughts:It's easy to search out known bypassing techniques for locks, and this lock is exceptionally secure, especially for this price and purpose. Bolt-cutters are the most likely attack on this lock, since they're quiet enough for an empty locker room, a lonely cabinet, or a shed, yet they'd take a long time and require exceptional effort. Other threats would obviously include conspicuous use of torches, liquid nitrogen, or power tools. Perhaps rebar torqued in the shackle would do the trick too, but it's unlikely that an unmotivated attacker will go to these lengths. With this lock, your only concern should be the quality of the locker itself. A crowbar will pull off a plywood locker door like butter. Even more likely, the would-be thief will be redirected to an easier target, and you'll have a great day.For your bicycle, just buy a proper U-lock.No lock will stop a smart, determined attacker. Be street smart. Avoid risk however you can.I mean what I've said, you can tell from my writing. I've used this lock without incident. I had one of these about 10 years ago, and got this one about a year ago. I've confirmed weaknesses in alternative locks not present in this one. However, I haven't personally attacked it, or weathered it outdoors.I've heard the Master 2002 is the same lock, only with a registered combo.Don't be naive. Don't learn lessons the hard way. Use this lock for your locker. Please be good and only use this information within the law. Please feel free to ask for my opinion about other applications or details. For everyone who calls this review helpful, a kitten will have a dream where it can fly.

Affordable, reliable, excellent.
I have owned Master Lock Dial Combination Locks all my life, but I hadn't bought one recently. After this recent purchase, I can confirm that their value and quality is top-notch.Likes:- It opens without an issue every time, assuming you input the code correctly.- It comes with the code taped onto the back of the lock itself, so there's no chance you can lose it or tear it when opening the packaging.- It has a high quality, shiny finish that exudes quality.- It offers excellent protection for lockers, bags, or doors.- Plastic front has "etched" numbers and notches, which allows it to work beyond the paint wearing off (which could take decades).Dislikes:- The only dislike is the quality of the plastic front -- it seems to move around in its housing. For me, this isn't enough of an issue to rate the product lowly.

Great lock that works indoors and outdoors. My last one lasted 15 years!
I had one of these that lasted for 15 YEARS outside on the shed. In Minnesota where it can be 100 degrees, or 20 degrees below zero. It has survived hail, rain, sleet, snow, and sub-zero temperatures. It finally wore out and I got another. Given the price as an Add-On item, I whish I had added on more. I made the mistake of getting a purple colored one before this one. The colored ones seem to be for indoor lockers and do not hold up outside. The black ones are pretty rugged. You really can't do any better for a reasonably priced indoor/outdoor lock. If you need one, just buy it!
