This is an elegant bronze replica of the “Acropolis Pedigree” that is exhibited in Acropolis Museum in Athens. The original piece, made by marble, was discovered near Erechtheion area in Acropolis in 1887. More likely, the horse was crafted during the archaic period and it was part of a dedication. Though, it is not clear whether it was part of a larger group (other horses, rider and/or charioteers). The statue has a strictly frontal position and it appears to gallop imperiously on the surface with his right hoof. The sense of movement and alertness is wonderfully highlighted through a very realistic rendering of the details: tenseness of muscles, open mouth and slight lifting of right paw. Interestingly, there are not traces of a horseman or bridles on the horse. Presumably, the rider was standing in front of the horse holding and getting prepared to fit the bridle on horse’s head. Our replica statue is made by top quality bronze, it is oxidized to take a deep greenish/antique style, and it is based on a green polished marble base. A very beautiful décor item for those interested in classical antiquity and art.
