Mighty fine read!
Well crafted tales, every one of them. Grunts. Pilots, heck, there's even a story about an accountant. Looking forward to more books from Cannon Publishing.

A great collection of Military SF shorts
An interesting collection of short stories in the military SF vein, and a hell of a ride. I stayed up late burning thru this book and enjoyed it thoroughly. The best of the lot, IMO, is Dragon Slayer by Alex Piasecki a supernatural tale of a USMC fire team coming face to face with an ancient evil, and Damage Control by Lucas Marcum a story of a space sailor trapped in the broken hull of a crippled starship. There are a lot of other stories by up and coming writers, and the volume concludes with the short appearance by J.F. Holmes “Irregular Scout Team One.” All in all, an enjoyable collection of military SF stories, and I give it four stars.

A wide range of talent and fun
I'm about halfway through, I bought it earlier this afternoon planning to read a story every few days and I'm already at the halfway point. Not every story is at a professional level, but I'm enjoying even the junior writers and I think they have potential.

More Hits Than Misses in Military Mash-Up
Uniformed men and women clash with foes both timeless and disturbingly new in this collection of short stories mashing the military with elements of sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. Editor/contributor J.F. Holmes has assembled thirteen tales ranging in craftsmanship from "excellent" to "needs work."You'll find an eclectic mix of settings from alternate history to deep space to contemporary conflicts as front-line fighters encounter the bizarre and alien, sprinkled with yarns featuring rear-area "fobbits" who find themselves thrust into the confusion and chaos of combat. Alas, a few offerings seemed little more than scenes, lacking a clear beginning, middle and end. In addition, there were editing and formatting glitches that detracted from the readings.Deserving of mention are:"Dragon Slayer" by Alex Piasecki"Damage Control" by Lucas Marcum"The Nothing" by Chris Morton"The Gunpowder Incident" by James SchardtI particularly enjoyed "Night Shift" by Yakov Merkin who included a nice dollop of 'science' with his sci-fi story of a bored, space sailor with health problems who finds himself the only one capable of alerting his comrades in the face of an enemy attack. Some enjoyable reads for aficionados of military and military sci-fi fiction.

Great fun, well written , can't wait for more of these talented writers.
What a fine group of imaginative story tellers. Some show more talent then others and surely those can reach the level the Asimovs, Bradberrys, and others of their ilk by staying with their art.

Cannon knocks one out of the ballpark!
What a RIDE!This one will keep you up at nights! Don't read it in a poorly lit house with thunderstorms raging outside.Once you start you won't be able to put it down.

Space soap operas?
Military stories from different worlds, obviously. Liked them all, including the ones with more military speak than I understand. Good stuff.
