Seriously, you slide it out of the box, unfold and clip the sides in place, put the perches in and, voila, instant bird cage.I have two small, slightly bigger than budgies, parakeets. They have a larger cage for day to day, but I wanted something that they could go outside in. It needed to be lightweight so I can move it onto and off a cart, and large enough, well, to be honest that they won't be right at the door, when I go to close them in. :-) But, also so they've got a little room to stretch their wings when they go for some fresh air. This seems perfect -still trying to convince them to go in, so I won't know how well it works in use until they realize there's millet in there.The downside of the lightweight/easy assembly is that is seems rather flimsy. It has the guillotine doors, so I used c-clips (the ones for bird toys) to hold the one door open and the rest firmly shut. Aside from that, the only problem I would have with this cage is that, for my birds, I use paper on top of the grate rather than having them standing directly on the grate when they're checking out the floor. It would be easier to change the paper if the grate could be slid out, but I don't expect I'll ever be changing the paper while the birds are in this cage so no big.

This was the absolute perfect cage for my pair of finches and offered me a complete setup for a great price. It is easy to clean. It has a large main door that slides up and tips out to hold itself open. The pan that pulls out under the wire cage floor is large; it fits U-Haul packing papers nearly perfectly-I only have to make one fold. The spring loaded side door makes placing the perches, or removing them for cleaning, easy. The cage offers spaciousness for plenty of flight and activity. The water/food dishes are large and stay in place well. My birds bathe in the deep water dish (yes, they are large enough for a finch to bathe in)so I have no need to purchase a separate bird bath for them. I often find both birds cuddling together in the food dish (they are sooo roomy). The cage also has two carrying handles on the sides, which I find useful when I have to move it to vacuum. I'm exceptionally pleased with this cage!Update 12/15/2013: This cage has held up great. I'm still so happy I bought it. My eight pound cat likes to lay on top of it to watch the birds. I didn't think it would be able to withstand that type of abuse, but surprisingly it has! And my finches still seem happy, too! :)

I bought this for my single finch after he lost his mate. I wanted him to get used to the cage before I got him a new mate. He loves this cage and flies all over in it. I put the back perch up as high as he could still sit on it and far back in the cage. Then I put the front perch about midway down and as far at the front as possible. This gives him a lot of flight room. He is using all that new space and working on learning some new tricks.I kind of agonized over this cage as it wasn't "cute" and also I thought from the way it looked I'd really have a lot more seeds and feathers scattered around. I did order a seed skirt, but really, in the ten days that I had the cage up without the skirt, I had LESS seeds and feathers outside the cage than from my other cage!The slide out tray is great and is so easy to pull out and clean. I think the grate being above the solid floor is what makes for less mess outside the cage.I thought I'd hate the wire grate floor, but surprisingly, my finch utilizes this floor much more than he did the solid one in his old cage. Could it be it is more like a perch to him? I have a water dish I set down for him to bathe in and I enjoy being able to pull out the tray without having to reach in and move his water and disturb him.And lastly the doors! There are three small push up doors in the front, one of which is within a larger push up door which can be propped open. There is also a spring loaded door, small, on one side.The provided dishes just slip inside the push up doors and are so easy to move in and out and easy to slip something in to the dish. I use them mainly for treats as I moved his old feed and water dishes into the new cage so he wouldn't be anymore stressed than necessary. He loves eating treats from his new dishes and I love the fact it is so easy to slip things in and out of the cage!Very glad I bought this.

These are perfect size for a pair of finches, please do not use for birds bigger than that, would be ok for a hospital or quarantine cage for a budgie but not big enough for other birds. Its easy to clean and stack if you have more than one pair of birds.
