Effective!
I’m very surprised that this actually works. I’ve always had trouble sleeping and when my doctor suggested I have a sleeping disorder I decided to do what I can to help correct that. Research suggested I use this to help correct my circadian rhythm. I wake up before the sun comes out and can’t get that “sunlight within an hour of waking” that’s suggested so this light provides that. I’ve noticed on days that I use it I do wake up easier and stay awake easier. It get very bright!! It’s lightweight and portable. It’s also very affordable. I highly recommend trying this if you struggle with sleeping or waking up.

Improved Sleep?
I get up between 4-4:30 am and am often at work before the sun rises. I bought this to use before I go in. I turn it on while eating breakfast. It’s bright and I keep it slightly turned away from me so it’s not pointing right into my eyes. I find it easy to turn on and off, though I squint a little turning it on as it’s the first real light I see in the morning. I’ve used the timer, but I generally just turn it off when I’m done now.Overall I’m pleased with this. Whether it’s placebo or not I cannot say, but my tracking watch has me at substantially more excellent nights of sleep since I got this in mid January and I feel like I fall asleep faster when I go to bed. I really feel a difference.

So bright, so portable, unstable base
Update: dropped from a 5 to a 3. The unit is oval shaped, making the base curved. It’s very slippery plastic so the slightest thing can mage it wobble to the side and fall off a table even. If the manufacturer had given these to 100 people for a test run they would have reported the design flaw. I have little tolerance for design flaws that could easily be corrected in this day and age. I’m working on finding my own fix, I’ll weigh in if I find one.Original review still holds:Right out of the box I love this. I’ll update if that changes. I placed it next to my 9 year old SAD lamp and was shocked to see that despite the smaller size it’s even brighter than it. The color of the light is very different, I’m not sure what works best for the result I’m looking for. I travel about 200 days a year for work so I'm just glad to have a portable light therapy source.Pros:USB cord/plug. For travel, anything that has a standard electric cord built in can get frayed and damaged over time from being wound up.Lightweight yet very solid. No obvious interior parts that rattle.Flip stand built in for easy set up, and completely recessed so the light lays perfectly flat for travel. No plastic chemical smell when unboxed.

Lasted over four years — great quality!
I bought this in October of 2021; it's now April of 2025. My lamp just now stopped staying on, so I'm buying another of the exact same. I've LOVED this lamp. It has helped me get through the cold months living in Michigan and Massachusetts when I am prone to seasonal depression and anxiety. It's also the best price for a great quality. I try to use it for at least 30 minutes in the morning when I'm starting work.

PMLE sufferers—this may be a great idea!
I have a slight intolerance to the sun—after 15 minutes, I get itchy and then start to freckle and that’s with 100 SPF full spectrum sunscreen, and that’s my signal to get out of the sun. Road trips? If I am not slathered in high spf sunscreen I will burn through the windows. And get sunscreen all over the seat. I have lived in the northeast where from November through March the sun isn’t visible—the sky is always overcast, but because of the cold, I’m bundled up, but it’s depressing when you can’t see any sunlight. I moved down south, and own parasols that block 30 spf and panic when I'm in the sun in traffic, and I would go on vacation with my in-laws in the summer and I would be able to go hunt seashells with my kids at 8 AM (covered in sunblock) and start walking back to the beach house when I started to get itchy, just to run into my in-laws on their way to the beach at 10 AM and return after 2 PM! I just got this lamp, and just started with 15 minutes on the timer and wow, I feel like I have energy and I’m alert. I’m going to start leaving it on from morning until afternoon to simulate a normal sunny day and I believe that I will even sleep better. It’s not just for people with SAD. You need a good sunlamp because lack of sunlight affects your circadian rhythm, your dopamine levels, and it’s necessary for life.Shout out to all my people with PMLE—at whatever level you have it—Who are stuck inside their room with blackout curtains to keep the sun out year round! I know how depressing and isolating that kind of life is—and how lucky I am to be able to be in the sun for (up to) 15 minutes. Plus having to take 2,000 mg of D3 just to get your vitamin D levels into the low normal range!
