45740 Z-Wave On/Off Toggle Switch by JASCO

We recently had an alarm system added to our home and I wanted to add on the ability to program our front porch light with the system. This was much cheaper than ordering through the alarm company. It was easy enough to install myself with a little bit of clarification at the hardware store on what extra piece of white wire I needed to get. Works perfectly and allows us to set the porch light on a timer or have it programmed to go on when other events happen such as a window is broken. I would love to add this ability to other light switches or devices in our home at some point. The only question I have is about having it with a certain number of feet from the wifi unit. Fortunately, our light switch this time was close enough, but others won't be. I would love to hear comments on how others managed to program their switches if their modem was further away.

This purchase was my first home automation purchase and there have been many since. I have an ADT Pulse system and Jasco products are of few brands that are compatible with the system. I've since switched to a Harmony/Logitech system, but all devices transitioned and worked great. In 3 years, I've had one switch recently fail. I contacted Jasco support and the interaction was refreshing to say the least. No chatbots, phone trees or roadblocks to get to someone that could help. They were quick to respond (same day) and provide options. At the end of they day, they provided better support and options than what I would ever expected. I'm a loyal fan.

This product works with ADT Pulse. The switch is huge and it is challenge to fit it into older junction boxes.My junction box did not have a neutral wire, so a neutral wire was pig tailed at the light fixture's junction box and fished into the switch's junction box. There is also a screw for a ground cable, which can be fastened onto the junction box. The hot wires can be taken from the old switch. Easy peasy.

Instead of a full swing toggle switch, it's a microswitch where the toggle handles sits in the middle. Therefore it looks nothing like any other normal toggle switch. This is an unfortunate aesthetic. Yes, I know it might be confusing to have a switch that needs to be toggled to change state, but it's not hard to grasp (like a 3-way setup). I just caved in and got a Decora which doesn't match but doesn't look as silly.

This switch performs as advertised. At first I was uncertain about the toggle nature of the switch, but learned to like it. I have paired two of these to a Link Interactive QolSys IQ2 panel. One switch is at about 12 feet, the other at 20+ feet. Both paired OK and have been faultless in 2 mo+.I am buying a third.
