JIM DUNLOP 234 Tempered Flare Slide, Medium

It's called bottleneck slide for a reason. Early rural blues players had little option other than a sawed off wine bottle neck. Aside from the more authentic sound, the flared contour also allows more control and cuts down on overtones. My only complaint is that I prefer to use my pinkie finger to allow for chording and for a medium slide this is on the large size. Heavy walled glass has a nice smooth mellow sound but, overall, I prefer the better fit, sustain, and punch of the flared brass Eric Sardinos' Preachin Pipe.

I've played bottleneck/slide since 1970, and have used everything from chrome plated steel tubing to cutting my wine & liquor bottle necks for my own use, and for students. It's always made sense, to my way of thinking, that a slide should have a somewhat curved surface if you're playing a guitar on which the strings are curved to the fingerboard contour. They will touch all the strings (if that's what you want) instead of having to press down on the middle strings to reach the outer strings, as you would have to do with a straight slide. A straight slide would be fine on many National guitars.In any case I bought a pair of the Dunlop 235 slides for a student, and although they're well made, they are just not heavy/thick enough to control the mass of light gauge acoustic guitar strings. They would be fine on an electric guitar where a typical light gauge set would have much less mass. The inside diameter was fine for use on my ring finger, and I have large hands. I considered getting some lead tape to line the inside with, but instead found my student a curved brass slide, the Harris 232 Large size, also made by Dunlop. The brass has got the mass required for this application.

Very large. There is nothing ‘medium’ about the 234 size. Using it on my 65mm middle digit and its all over the place. Best as a thumb slide.

I have purchased at least 10-12 slides and this is the only one I can get over my knuckles, and I mean from the smaller end. It's thick enough to provide a rich sound, but the concave shape requires a little getting used to.

Second one sense 1968 they last a while frist one is still going strong, one in each case .

A lot bigger than I thought it would be. Has a nice tone but She's pretty big! Then again if you roll the slide as you get to a note you do get a pretty vibrato to your sounds!

Flare is uneven and doesn't match guitar neck radius. Useless.

I've used these slides for years but the past two I've bought have been sized completely differently than they used to be. The size is not really close to the dimensions listed. I'm not sure what's going on with them. Either way, they are pretty good sides for the money
