This curriculum is adorable! I am doing it with my homeschooled son for second grade. Although you could do it in first grade, there are writing exercises in the workbook (cahier d'activities) that involve simple writing and reading in French. I wanted him to be a bit stronger in English before starting a written curriculum in another language. Unlike the other reviewer, mine came complete with the CD and Livret de civilization (thin booklet tucked inside the front cover). To teach the course for homeschooling, you need this book, the cahier d'activities and the teacher's guide (guide pedegogique), which is only on French.

The title of the listing shows that the book included a Livre de Civilisation, which was not part of 4 of the books we received. We did not receive a notice that this would not be part of all the books. Disappointed.

The CD doesn't work. The writing is cursif, not great for our curriculum. Wish I could return it.

This method is great for teaching French to kids. But in order to do so you will NEED the whole collection : teachers guide, CD s, and so on. This one is the student's book and the Cd which comes with it has extra activities.Shipping was fast and the price was good .

This series REALLY worked for us. Unlike most French educational curricula, which are based on reading and rote, this series teaches using kids' innate aural language capacity, their contextual understanding, and their sense of fun. We're homeschoolers, but did most of our French study as "carschooling," which is to say we played the CDs and read the books (we did all three levels) in the car when going from one place to another -- free learning time! There is also a written workbook that the kids did, mostly once we got to the second book, which is maybe helpful for visual learners, but our guys were fine even without it. We prepped by doing the first two books before a stay for 3 months in France. The kids had internalized what they'd learned at home and, though a little clunky on arriving, were functionally fluent within about a month. The third book went really quickly. If you're looking, the next in the series is actually the second of the Amis Et Compagnie Amis Et Compagnie Level 2 Textbook (French Edition) series (by the same author). For the books and the CDs (which are DIFFERENT than the CD that is included with the textbook), you might be better off going to https://www.wor.com/ Either way, unless your own French is perfect, I'd recommend getting the Guide Pédagogique so you can help your students understand what is being said in some of the (realistically portrayed, not overly enunciated) scenes from the text.

This is a great resource! The kids at school love it and I enjoy using it. Only 4 stars because I've also had to search around and pay extra for a CDRom that works. I'm pleased now I've got it, but it doesn't match directly with the books and I've then had to index it myself. It's taken time and been a bit frustrating, but there is a lot on the CD Rom and it's really engaging.
