Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon - PC

Close, but no Cigar
When ghost recon came out they said Tom Clancy was going for a more tactical type game. I immediately invisioned myself leading a big, maybe even huge, team of soldiers. Instead I got a game pretty much like the old, and originally fun but now boring, Rainbow Six games. It's exactly like Rainbow six escept outdoors and with less soldiers and less choice of equipment. You have three teams. Alpha team can have 3 soldiers on it, Bravo 2, and Charlie only 1. Making it very like the Rainbow Six games except worse. The good points are the good graphics of the soldiers however. Thier guns are very well put together graphicaly, and the suits for the snipers have nice camoflauge aspects to them. The scenery is rather nice too, very realistic are the trees and bushes and sound effects and such. However, putting on night vision turns the scenery a bit too game-like. It falls short in terms of weapon realism too. There is no kick (Recoil) for any of the weapons, making it very much like a poorly designed FPS game. The scenarios are nicely designed. with realistic objectives and good maps. However with the small team you have these maps are more of a curse then a blessing. Multiplayer on these maps is much, MUCH, more fun. Another thing I wish they'd implemented was the ability to play as a regular soldier. Not having to command anyone or anything, just to follow along with the mission plan. Having to monitor everyone and move them along with you took a big fun factor out of the game. The Firefight single mission types and such did keep the game going for me when I got bored of the regular campaign though.Upside:Good scenery, player models, and gun graphics. Several different single player game types. Good mulitplayer action.Downside:Not too realistic, no recoil with weapons etc.Can only take six soldiers max on a mission. Always the leader, can't ever be a grunt. Limited equipment selection.

Good - could have been better
This program really uses your computer up - so make sure you have a fast processor and adequate video and system memory before considering purchase. I have a 1.2ghz AMD with a 32mb video card and Ghost Recon only runs in the lowest video settings.Gameplay is really great. For those of you that played Rouge Spear everything will be very familiar to you in this game as far as controls and interface are concerned. The maps are pretty big, and the enemies have really good AI programs. They are probably twice as 'smart' as in Rouge Spear. One thing I didn't like is the taking away of the detailed mission planning capabilities. In Rouge Spear you could plan it down to the smallest detail - orchestrating your forces. In Ghost Recon it is a much more simple interface - the planning can only be basic.Buy this game if you have a fast computer and like a somewhat more intelligent shooter game than the average gore fests.

Definitely impressed and so realistic....
As noted is some of the previous reviews, I have experienced no problems with GR in single player. My specs: P4 1.4G, Intel 850GB motherboard, 128 RDRam, GeForce2 MX 400, SB Live Value. I have noticed a distinct popping noise during single player gameplay when shuffling or strafing, but not all the time. This is not necessarily a problem w/ the game as well.Overall, I'm am thoroughly impressed with the game. As a past devoted fan to the Tom Clancy: Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear series, GR definitely adds another "notch on the belt". Graphics are clean and very realistic. Movement and weapon effects are more believeable. The realism effect is definitely there. In some cases, it maybe too much for some.AI is definitely an improvement. Case in point: I approach two "bad guys" within 50 meters, placed a shot on one and down he went. The other "bad guy" went down as well; like he was shot. This confused me for a second thinking I had nailed both of them with one shot. I held my position for a few seconds and sure enough, the second guy did stand up, facing my direction and shooting. Fortunately, I was prepared and took him down as well. This situation took me completely by surprise and surely would have been my demise had I not held back a few seconds. The kicker to add to this: this occurred in the first map. Imagine what lies ahead.......?I have not attempted online multiplayer but have tried IP and LAN with no problems. Same relative idea as with RS, but with a facelift.

Pathetic
The reviews said this is good, but I must've missed something in the tutorial. I thought the soldiers were supposed to fire on their own? It's very realistic, but I apparently failed to get the fun of the game.If anyone can advise me on this, please comment.
