Is this product environment friendly?

The process that indigo has to go through to become an effective dye has the potential to harm the environment - I can't find any info on how Jacquard processes their indigo, so I can't say for sure. Either way, natural indigo dye is definitely more environmentally friendly than its synthetic counterparts. Also, what is cool about this kit is that it comes with a brief history of indigo dye!

Any advice? I am giving it a 2nd try. Maybe overnight? My 1st try, the dye did not produce a 'bloom' so maybe it was an old sample?

the more times you dunk your item in the dye the darker it will get, try doing it every 20-30 minutes and reduce the water/dye ratio. in other words, use less water to make the dye more concentrated. let me know how it went.

How large of a piece of cotton-linen can dye a solid shade in the 5 gallon bucket without running into issues?

I have never dyed fabric, only skeins of yarn. Sorry I can't answer your question..........

Do you have to use Soda Ash? What is the purpose of Soda Ash?

The soda ash sets the color into the fabric so the blue doesn't wash out with future washes. Some comes with the kit.
