Lonely Planet Pocket Seoul Paperback – January 19, 2016

Lonely Planet has never failed us for our trips but I think one of the best features in this one published in January 2016 is that they have a built in 4-day itinerary for those short on time. They also highlight favorote food and sights for each area on one page to view and the whole book is very organized and jam packed with optional suggestions.

Well recommended for Seoul visit

Overall this was a great guidebook - we spent 9 days in Seoul and this was very helpful: divided into neighborhoods, with maps for each neighborhood as well as a larger pull out map with subway guide (though, I'd recommend just picking up one of the Seoul Tourist Board's free maps and subway maps that are available at any tourist info booth throughout the city, they are easier to use and more thorough). It covered major tourist attractions in each neighborhood, as well as some more off-the-beaten-trail options.The book was small enough that it fit into the tiniest of handbags with ease, so I could bring it everywhere without being weighed down.My biggest con is that Lonely Planet missed one of the biggest (current) tourist attractions to Seoul. Although it covers such trendy things as current hot nightlife spots, where to get up-and-coming craft beers throughout the city, etc., it completely neglected to mention anything at all to do with Korean beauty products, a huge, multi-billion dollar industry and reason for many tourists' trips to Korea. Even in the section devoted to the neighborhood (Myeong-dong) most known for being The Place to buy Korean beauty products, Lonely Planet neglected to mention it. (The guide is a bit dude-centric, as it were). Lonely Planet, if you want me to go back and write a supplement for the next edition, I'd be happy to ;) But K-beauty seekers, just beware you'll need to get your info elsewhere.Other than that, it was a handy little guidebook.
