Works Very Well
I had a severe problem with calcium scale in my saltwater pool. When I washed the filter, it looked like milk was pouring out. When I swept the poolwalls and floors, it appeared to kick up a ton of dust. A pool technician told me my fiberglass gel coating was deteriorating and the pool should be resurfaced. Reluctant to believe this as my pool is less than 10 years old, I tested the white substance to determine that it was calcium scale. I researched how to remove it and in doing so, found this product. I applied the product to my pool in accordance with the instructions on the label. One full bottle was added every two weeks for six weeks and the filter was washed every other day. By the third application the pool was completely clear of calcium scale. No more dust clouds, no more white milky filters. Water is crystal clear. I plan to add a bottle every two months to maintain. Highly recommend.

Love it.
ScaleTec Plus seems to work as indicated and I am very happy with this product and intend to use it for the foreseeable future.Backstory: I have a concrete/gunite in-ground pool with white-blue Diamond-Brite plaster. It is a chlorine pool, which is 2 years old, 15,000 gal. It is is partially shaded. It had some older lime scale from improper initial startup from 2 years ago. This summer it also developed regular calcium scale. The calcium scale formed due to the very hard water we have in Houston. I dropped the ball on my weekly maintenance this summer, so the pH in my pool was creeping up and was high most of the time. In combination with high calcium content in the water, this causes immediate scaling. My scale spots were extra unsightly because I had an algae problem concurrently and some of the algae color was trapped in the scale causing them to look greenish/yellowish. In addition, I had brown iron stains in 2 places caused by my pool heater in areas around the water returns. The treatment which I applied was as follows:1. Drop the acidity/pH to around 7.02. Drop the free chlorine to 0.3. Treat the iron stains with ascorbic acid (vitamin C) for 24 hours. Use ScaleTec in addition to "Metal Out" product as metal sequestrant.4. Raise the chlorine gradually to normal levels over 2 days.5. Pour a double-dose of ScaleTec Plus to work its magic on the calcium scale.6. Spot-treat the hardest/darkest calcium scale areas manually with a spot-treatment tool with muriatic acid. It helped but it was very slow and it took about 1 hour to treat a couple of square feet.7. Pour in additional 8 ounces of ScaleTec weekly and let it work.8. Maintain the water balance normally, with pH slightly on the lower end of the scale around 7.0-7.2 (using muriatic acid). So far, in about 2-3 weeks, I notice that 80% of the scale is gone. If it continues this way, it will completely clear out the pool. I will write an update in a month or two. I am very happy with the ScaleTec product and will make it part of my regular maintenance. When you have hard water like we do here, the only way is to find something which keeps the calcium in suspension. Otherwise it scales up immediately, especially if you let your water balance get out of whack.

Helped a little but spiked my phosphate readings
We did a treatment of a different brand of descaler for ring around the pool and it worked but the deposits came back on the bottom around the filter returns. This did reduce some of it without the need to scrub, but not all of it. We have very hard water, so it's not an easy task. For the price, I'd have hoped for a little more. It doesn't clearly say on the bottle that it will spike phosphate levels, but ours have been reading high for months since the treatment even though the pool water is crystal clear.

Followed directions to a "t" - no result!
I had high hopes of using this product to tackle my severely scaly pool - not just regular scale, but dirty brown scale. Not a pleasant thing to look at. I thought I would have to have an acid wash but was afraid to drain the pool because of the risk of floating it.I had tested the scale with muriatic acid and had no problem removing it. However, due to neglect and low calcium concentration of the water, minerals had been drawn out of my wall and had stained the entire pool - floor and all walls. We're not talking a light stain - but really thick, rough, and ugly absolutely everywhere.Scrubbing alone didn't do a thing and my local pool store recommended ScaleTec. Of course, their prices are much higher than what you pay here. Thus, I ordered twice as much as needed because I wanted to give this product every chance I could give it by having a follow-up roughly 30 days after initial application.I balanced the water before according to directions before adding the product. Then I scrubbed. And I scrubbed. And I scrubbed.I made sure the water stayed within the recommended values and added a second dose of ScaleTec.Then I scrubbed. And scrubbed. And scrubbed.I waited for a long time - but there was absolutely no difference in appearance. In the end, I would not purchase this product again - obviously because it didn't do a thing other than drain money out of my wallet. Perhaps it works well with light scaling, but anything serious can, apparently, not be removed by this problem. If you have some serious scaling, opt for an acid bath - that's what I did. Sealed off my actual pump and filter, dumped quite a few gallons of muriatic acid in the pool to lower the pH to unpleasant levels, agitated the water with a sump pump, scrubbed, and had a mostly scale free pool one week later. There still was serious staining at the deepest part of the pool that brushing in the acidic water did not remove. I re-balanced my water as quickly as I could - pretty easy stuff that didn't take more than three days. For that, I attached a large funnel to some PVC pipe, lowered the end of the pipe to the dark scale, slowly poured muriatic acid into the funnel, and watched the scale disappear before my eyes. Since my pool tends to run high on pH, adding the acid to remove the scale didn't even negatively affect the water.
