Tries too hard to be like Stephanie Plum
I really wanted to like this book. I have been a fan of the Stephanie Plum books for several years, and since the Miss Fortune series had rave reviews and people drawing comparisons to the Plum books, I figured I would give this a shot. My biggest problem with this book is simply that the author is trying too hard to piggyback off of the Plum series. The story is written in first person POV and it tries too hard to be funny. Maybe since I am familiar with Janet Evanovich's writing style and the presentation of the Stephanie Plum stories, I am disinclined to want to read more of the same from someone else. I'm not saying that Ms. DeLeon has copied Ms. Evanovich, but. . .there are too many similarities for me. The writing is not as strong in this book, so that's a definite fail.I think if the writing style was more original, this story might have been more appealing. As it is, the writing, overall, is weak and the premise seems contrived (especially if you're already a fan of the Stephanie Plum books). The writing and the story line didn't appeal to me, so I won't be continuing with this series.

Be Prepared...
...because once you start this series you are going to be buying every book in it. (It only took me 4 days to purchase all 15 books. Thankfully Amazon has a package deal for the first 14).Jana DeLeon can write throughly engaging characters and a descriptive scene like very few authors I have read and I have read a lot. Fortune Redding is a wonderful character that has you cheering and grateful people like her actually exist. The growing and totally realistic emotions she goes through throughout the series will make some readers forget she is just a fictional character. Ida Belle and Gertie have to be read to be believed. They defy description.Louisiana Longshot is an enjoyable book that will have you quickly going for Book 2 to see what happens. Once you start down this path, if you are familiar with the South at all (and I mean that in a completely wonderful way), you will be in tears, and have people looking at you strangely if you are reading in public, because you will be laughing so hard. This is where the descriptive writing comes in and you will see the scenes so clearly. The escapades the ladies get into, to the chagrin and sometimes humor of Deputy LeBlanc, are so much fun! So, sit back and prop your feet up, and don’t start a book if you are going to sleep anytime in the following few hours!

This "could" have been a 5 star review but not without an ending.
I very much enjoyed the banter and craziness of this book right up until the end, or I should say until it failed to end. I detest books that give you only "part" of the story and then make you buy another book to find out how the first one ended. I suspect the mystery won't be solved in the next book either, hence the word "series." (I truly wish authors knew the difference between the words "series" and "serial.")The story starts out with CIA agent Fortune being sent to Louisiana under cover to hide until her boss can discover who the mole is in the CIA. The mole blew Fortune's cover and now there's a hit out on her. She's not supposed to draw attention to herself in Louisiana. Of course she immediately gets involved in a murder investigation with a couple of gray haired old ladies who aren't what they appear to be. The mystery of the murder is solved by the end of the book, but you have no clue who the mole is or if the hit is still out on Fortune. The book just ends.

I needed this book...
I’ve been in a book slump for awhile. I’ve started half a dozen books over the last several months and ended them all by chapter 5. But this book grabbed my attention and I flew through it. I found myself staying up late to finish it and I woke my poor husband at least 3 times laughing so hard.Absolutely laugh out loud funny. Stephanie Plum meets the Golden Girls. Quick read. Great storyline. I loved every character. Read this book!Favorite Quote:“You’ve got man-eating monsters pretending to be frogs in your backyard, banana pudding wars, missing people, and an unsolved murder. I am the least of your worries.”

4th time reading it and I still love it like the 1st time
What can I say? I love, love, love this series. There is nothing more fun than finding a book or, even better, a series or author that you love so much you reread them every once in a while just for the pleasure of visiting them once more. This is one of those books/series. Fortune is a hoot and Gertie and Ida Belle just make the fun better. I love how Fortune sizes up everyone in her head according to their danger potential. I’m still laughing from my 4th reread, especially because I discovered things I didn’t remember from before - even better! I’m already moving on to rereading the second in the series - it’s only been a few months since the most recent one came out and I’m already anxiously awaiting the next chapter in Fortune’s story.UPDATE: I’ve made it to the 10th book and still discovering fun bits I missed or forgot about. Gertie’s “purse of doom” - too funny (and accurate). Julie Moffett has a deft touch with description and dialogue. She really brings this hysterical cast of characters alive.

Get ready to laugh out loud!!!
First off I have to agree with the reader who said (saw it on the Amazon page) “If you like Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series, you’ll love Miss Fortune.” whole heartedly!! You are going to love the Sinful Old Ladies-they sure know how to get things done--if in an unorthodox manner!! They are also great at keeping secrets and roping unsuspecting people into their plots!!I really enjoyed this novel--except for maybe the fact alligators were around--but one of the old ladies took care of him!!Get ready to laugh out loud!!!

Likeable easy read
Feeling like I needed a light and funny read I chose this one to read next!Following Fortune Redding, who is usually an undercover CIA agent, through her latest mission. Her last job didn’t go so well and now people are out for revenge, for fortunes blood! She goes undercover in a quaint little town in Louisiana where she immediately runs into trouble on her first day there! We are thrown into rumours of a local woman killing her husband and inheriting a rather large amount of money, Straight away Fortune can’t resist finding out more.I fell in love with the ladies in sinful, so absolutely hilarious hearing about gertie and her cough syrup in church! 😂I really enjoyed this easy going well paced and amusing novel 🙂 interesting storyline, likeable characters and nothing too heavy if you are looking for a light read!

Think Johnny English rather than James Bond!
Louisiana Longshot is a light-hearted mystery and features disgraced CIA agent Fortune Redding. With a price on her head she is sent off-grid to Sinful, Louisana, to pose as an ex-beauty queen and librarian whose late Aunt has bequeathed her a house and its contents. The expected sleepy backwater immediately throws Fortune into the limelight when her inherited dog digs up a human bone on her property. The investigation which follows gets her involved with the hilarious town Ladies Of Sinful who appear to be the real authority in the area. Fortune struggles to keep a low profile as her involvement keeps bringing her face-to-face with inquisitive but handsome police officer LeBlanc. This is a fun read, not to be taken too seriously; a mystery entangled with ladies of a certain age who have a knitting club and years of life experience. Their antics were chuckle-worthy, while Fortune’s skills as an assassin would surely have embarrassed the CIA; think Johnny English rather than James Bond. This is the second book that I have read by the author and I like her fun, outrageous characters - I would happily pick up another one.

This is where the fun starts. The book is well written and a ...
First I got this book for free, if I had paid for it I would still have said it was worth every penny. It was not what I expected. When you read the blurb about a CIA agent who has returned after killing the son of an well known arms dealer, with her shoe, you know immediately he will want revenge. Her boss meets her in secret when she gest of the plane, with a colleague and explains there is a leak within the CIA and she has to disappear, due the substantial price on her head. This is where I made the mistake of thinking it would be about how different assassins from around the world were trying to find her and do her harm. She is given a temporary cover as a grieving niece, ex beauty queen and librarian. Something far removed from Fortune Redding's lifestyle. She is sent to Sinful, Louisiana where she is to keep a low profile inventorying the contents of her aunties house. This is where the fun starts. The book is well written and a pleasure to read. I am at the age where everything that occurs is feasible, somewhat silly I know. It is very rarely that an author can make me laugh out loud but this one did, there are moments in the book that I can relate to, like the hose pipe and car fiasco.

Great female characters in this cosy mystery
I love a good murder mystery but have found of late that many roll together into one homologous mass. Not so Louisiana Longshot, which grabbed me as an alligator grabs the unwary, from the off. When deadly CIA agent Fortune Redding has to ‘disappear’ for a while, where better than the sleepy southern US town of Sinful. But Fortune’s acting abilities are over stretched playing her alter ego, a beauty queen and librarian. An old murder soon surfaces in sleepy Sinful and threatens to blow her cover wide open. When Fortune hooks up with two old ladies, who are anything but sweet, mayhem ensues. Here in Sinful, amongst the flooding bayou is murder and mystery, banana pudding wars, and deadly alligators. This laugh out loud mystery has strong, feisty, independent, female characters which are beautifully written with a southern humour that brings the town of Sinful to life.I’m looking forward to being a whole lot more Sinful next year!
