City in the Sky: The Rise and Fall of the World Trade Center

Informative
I was given a glimpse of the WTC history through a History Channel special, which piqued my interest. I found this book so I could read in more detail of what they summarized on TV in a few minutes. The political maneuvering and insider deals to get it done are nothing short of astonishing. Frankly, I'm not sure how they were ever built! The beginning is a little slow to read because of the history and technical aspects. I would have liked more pictures to go along with the technical descriptions. But the parts that had personal stories of people that lived through the horrors are touching and brought me back to watching TV that morning, feeling so hopeless and helpless that each of these family's lives would be changed forever. I wish there was a follow up book (maybe there is?) that addressed the politics that came along with erecting the Freedom Tower, the commission report, and how we feel today, over 20 years later.

Learning about the towers
Very good book. Tells so much about the towers that I did not know. Easy reading and good explanations. Enjoyed it very much.

A Good Historical & Technical Read
This book really went in depth into the people behind the creation of the WTC, and how certain decisions affected the structures and the people who worked in them. The chapter on the actual plane crashes was very difficult to read, like revisiting the horror. This book does a very good job of making you understand the circumstances that led to structural failure.

Serviceable, "no hyperboles" account
Not the most entertaining writing, but accurate and well researched account of inherently flawed project, from birth to death.Someone like John McPhee would have added a lot of thought provoking humor. That's it, this is a history / sociology study devoid of humor and sarcasm, where there was plenty of room to make it fun, as the human foible-ness is so great.

Amazing read!
This book goes way back into a time before the WTC was even built into all of the events that made its construction possible and all of the events on that fateful day. Highly recommended!

Interesting & Informative
This is a great book to read if you want more information about the background of the WTC buildings. From design to inception and all the feuds and foibles inbetween, it's all there including alleged Mafia construction bosses and expense account fiddling. Well worth reading!

Highly informative
more than a decade after the fall of the twin Towers it is useful and more than neccessary. Even in an over-informed society such background information is still a Need.

From dreams to nightmares.........
This book covers the world trade center from conception to its demise, it discusses initial designs for the trade center and the different proposed locations. It also reveals the flaws in the towers design which could have been it's achiles heel. The last few chapters recount the horrors of 9/11, although that isn't what this book is primarily about.
