Worth every penny for mild cognitive impairment and age-related balance issues
While doing some research, I read about Huperzine A. My mom had been experiencing some mild cognitive impairment, so I ordered some to give it a try. I'm really glad I did! Mom has been taking it for several months, and it works really well. On occasion I found that mom benefitted a 2nd dose. Because of that, I order the 200mcg tablets for her. Source Naturals brand Huperzine is $12 for bottles of 120 count 100mcg tablets and it's $20 for bottles of 120 count bottles of 200mcg tablets. One bottle lasts for 4 months. It's such a small price to pay for something that has such positive and noticeable effects on cognitive health and mom's sense of balance. The tablets are very small, round tablets, that are beige in color, and are very easy for mom to swallow. I definitely recommend Huperzine A to anyone experiencing minor age related cognitive impairment, forgetfulness, or balance issues. Highly Recommended!

Improvement in my short term memory
I remember a time when I had an excellent memory, but as the years go on, I find myself being unable to recall things more and more and it is driving me nuts. I decided to try a supplement to help, and found mention of huperzine A in a reddit thread I was reading. I probably read through 10-15 different mentions of Huperzine when I was looking it up online, and decided to go for it. It came in the mail rather quickly (free shipping, Amazon Prime…score!) and I started to take the recommended dosage of one tablet two times a day, and waited to see the results. Well, as with all supplements, I know that it sometimes takes 3-6 weeks for you to see results take hold on your body, and I wanted to remain patient. After about a week, I saw a bit of change, I could see some improvement in my short term memory, but then also, I noticed I was a little bit tweaky, so I cut down the dosage to just one tablet per day in the morning. After three weeks, I noticed that there was actually a really big difference in my memory, as I could not only recall things that I had difficulty remembering before, I could do it faster than I am used to. The huperzine A is a really great product, and I do recommend it, but as with all supplements it’s really specific to your body and you have to do your research. It’s not a magic pill, but does work if it’s right for you. Update: So I’ve been taking the huperzine for a few months now, and actually started taking another supplement (this time for focus) that actually somehow increased the potency of the huperzine A. I am also taking NootropX - 90 caps - Mental Focus and Concentration Supplement With Memory Enhancement For Extreme Clarity and Alertness - Instant Brain and Memory Power Boost From Patented AES® Absorption System - The Ultimate Brain Vitamins and it works really well at helping me maintain focus and complete projects in a productive manner. It’s really great actually, and I only have to take one of those every other day so even though I’m seeing optimal results I’m just taking one huperzine A every day and one NootropX every other day.

I love This product
I love This product! This is the second time I have bought this product. You must give it a week, week and a half, before noticing the changes in recall. I have, once again, been able to immediately recall names, historical events in detail, etc., that was not so great, over the past several years. I am 66, and just recently a retired RN. I now feel the way I felt about 20 years ago. Those stored memories, especially names...it is just amazing. I am totally on track, sharp as a track, the way I always had been, recall.track, No sluggish hazy brain fog. I did do plenty of research re this product, as a nurse. This one REALLY works. No hype, no false promises.

Nitro boost for the brain
Makes you smarter, for a few hours. These are good when you need to focus. I take one before work every day. The effects don't last very long, but they are dramatic. My mom won't take them because she's worried they will diminish cognition long term. Who knows...I hope not. Anyway, if you don't feel as sharp as you used to, these are worth a try, after checking with your Doctor first, of course. I've heard stories some people have a bad reaction to cholinesterase inhibitors due to a genetic difference, so probably just take a tiny nibble of the pill the first few times to make sure you can handle them. If you know you have a sensitivity, steer clear.

Head boost for the memory-retarded
Update Feb 19, 2015 (2 1/2 years after original post) Thanks for the many comments. I still take Huperzine A and Vinposetine EVERY morning, but no longer bother with the Galantamine because that was a prescription and required unnecessary doctor visits. The headaches I mentioned stopped soon after I wrote the review. Oh sure, I occasionally get one, but just take a single Tylenol and it's gone. I would not do without my daily dose of these two meds... I've accidentally skipped a dose occasionally and I feel it that fast. I still play Spider Solitaire at the highest level just to test my IQ before trying to do something that requires concentration, and my Statistics show out of the last 336 games, I've won 234... that's not bad for a memory-retardee! Those of you that play this game know that score (69%) is difficult to hold for that long, and it's due to the concentration and tenacity the pills give me... I play some games to over 1000 moves just because I know I can win if I hack at it a little longer. I take 1 pill of each. Original Review: Warning: I'm wordy. Things that I like or dislike usually end up with a long review. Others are short or not reviewed. If you want your review 20 words or less, skip this one. I'm 72 and my memory has slowly declined over the last 5 years, as well as my ability to concentrate and analyze. I had a fairly high IQ in my youth, but now sometimes I wonder if someday I'll be the guy I see in movies where the children visit and talk, but I never respond. I also have a blood pressure problem and take 4 meds, 2 of them twice a day. I mention that because when I began the Huperzine A, my BP went up just a bit from it's managed state. Most noticeable was heart rate. When I first went to the doctor for help with my memory problem, he prescribed Donepezil but that made no effect whatsoever. He then tried Galantamine and I'm not sure that helped my memory, but wow my dreams were so good they became my favorite source of entertainment. Last year I tried the Exelon patches, and this was the first medication that actually DID work. I felt the difference in only a few days, my memory better, but more important, my motivation and concentration came back. And combined with the Galantamine, my dreams became virtual High Definition. But Excelon is $250 for a 30 day supply, kind of tough for a guy living on social security. So I kept watch online for new drugs to help out my finances, and a couple of months ago discovered Huperzine A. To compare, I stopped taking the patches and began with 100 micrograms of Hupe each day. I didn't really know how much to take since it wasn't a prescription. So I experimented around, first trying 200mcg, but that was like drinking too much coffee. Then I tried 50mcg morning and evening, but my dreams became overbearing! I would dream something problematic and when I woke, I couldn't shake the stress of it. So I settled on the original 100mcg each morning AND 3/4 of my Galantamine dosage. This seems to put me in about the same place as the Exelon did, I concentrate ok and my memory seems just fine (of course I only remember what I remember :) But I kept reading online from guys trying this who are much younger than me, for study boosts in college, etc. Some of them said that there is a step up from the Hupe, and it's Huperzine A PLUS Vinpocetine... so naturally, being an adventurous type, I ordered that too. Well it is indeed a step up. In fact I'm not sure my brain worked this well before my decline! I measure my mental acuity by playing Spider Solitaire on the top difficulty, and now that I am taking this combination (mind you I'm still doing the Galantamine) I can beat this game often, and the moves just jump out of the screen for me, fast as I can do it. It works! In addition I have more tenacity now, and stick to tasks a lot better. Only downside is the dreams (in combination with Galantamine and Vinposetine). This might be something of interest for some of you, and a GOOD dream in high definition, living color with touch and sound and everything real... yeah that's a trip in itself, but when it's a bad dream, or one that is problematic (like you can't find your child, or you're lost) leaves you in a shaking state for an hour after waking. It's a feeling like you've just been through the actual ordeal and it's hard to jump right out of that and try to do something like driving in traffic or engaging in anything diplomatic. Approach it slowly maybe, just to taste the effect. I take my "mentals" in the morning, but sometimes I take a nap because they don't do a thing for my body, just my brain... and if I do that, even for an hour, I'm going to dream. That, and the increased heart rate, are the ONLY reasons this is not a 5-star rating. One other caveat is that I have mild headaches at times, but nothing a Tylenol can't handle. Good luck! I now have this product and Vinposetine on Amazon Subscription.

One of many approaches to an aging memory
So far I have not found any one product that is the cure-all for a failing memory. Huperzine A is part of a battery of other vitamins and supplements that really affect the memory by stimulating increased blood ciruclation. Although I use it personally I most often administer it ,on an almost daily basis, to my 92 y/o mother who suffers from some form or forms of dementia. While most would say that it is too late for her she does show signs of remarkable memory recollection concerning some things while other parts of the memory are totally gone. While I stopped giving her phosphatidyl serine because it became a choking hazard to her, I have recently found that it dissolves very well in her tea and administer it to her this way. The Huperzine A comes in a small tablet that is easy for her to swallow. Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC), having acid groups attached to it, does not dissolve well in tea that contains milk (the milk curdles) and I have therefore stopped giving her ALC. I am on my second bottle of Huperzine A and will probably purchase it again.
