Learn To Play Drums: The Complete Drum Method Volume 1: Essential drum techniques, grooves, fills, patterns and rhythms

I self taught my self to play drum, play by ear and seeing music videos, but without enough drumming technique foundation. I've seen a lot of drum book out there but most of them are not structural enough and some are even overwhelming with a lot of information that I need to know one step at a time.The Complete Drum Method Volume One is what I needed. Wanting to learn the right foundation of drumming technique, reading notation, and basic rhythm and groove, this book expose itself for things I need to know step by step. More than often I find myself trying to start at the complex one first but then soon to give up. But with this book, even if you are a professional drummer, you will find the information helpful to guide you to shape up your knowledge and technique. It starts with history of modern drum, then notation of drum, two hands playing and building up to two three four voices (playing the full drum set). What's more to that is you get a bundle of free MP3 audio files for each exercises given. This is really helpful especially for those who are not used to reading the notation. Instead of confusing yourself trying to figure out how to play the exercise, you can listen the audio first and break it down to smaller part.I have read all of the book but haven't tried all of the exercises yet. I'm starting from the beginning to increase my reading skill of the notation. It's a must have drumming book, whether you want to refresh your knowledge or to learn more. I cannot wait for volume 2, hopefully with more rhythm exercises, not just standard 4/4 but also odd time signatures, latin and so on.

Ive tried many drum tuition books over the years but this one has been the most beneficial by far. It covers everything in extraordinary detail, from the history and evolution of the drum kit to even how to sit properly on the stool. The book goes right through the basics and gets progressively harder and more technical with tons of exercises in different styles and genres. My knowledge and playing skills have improved so much, cant wait for volume 2!!

Hopeless. One useful tip has the permutations all laboriously printed to fill the book.A 10 minute video (free) of Billy Cobham is more educational.

Very clear and fun book. I’m enjoying myself working through it and learning the drums.

I would like to know if my purchase was supposed to include the audio element which would explain only 2 stars. The theory and history of drums is interesting but it misses somewhat when you cannot listen to the tapes.

This is more than just a drum method! I'm an absolute beginner and pleased with the level of detail, with easy language to understand. I've already learned so much about the drum kit and inspired to play. Very glad I chose this book!
