works great
Arrived in good shape reviewed Saturn Jupiter the comet and several star clusters and it works great

Works Great!
I got a couple defects to start out with... they seemed like they had been returned previously and damaged by owners... but then I got a good one that works perfectly! Very nice, smooth movement! Excellent focuser!

Great, but not really meant for a small scope
I bought this for a homemade 6" f/4 Newtonian telescope. It doesn't contour well to the 7.5" Sonotube but that was easily fixed with some felt shims. The screws were too short but that was easily solved as well with a trip to the hardware store. I haven't actually used the scope yet but the focuser seems rather high-quality. There is absolutely no drawtube wobbling, and the movement is very smooth. The tension is adjustable with a supplied Allen key. You get a lot for your $87.My only complaints are:1) It's heavy. I would be concerned with balance problems on a small scope with an equatorial mount.2) The focus travel is rather short and if I was adapting this to an existing scope I would not be surprised if I needed to use extension tubes and/or move the mirror up in the OTA.3) The focuser didn't come with a dust plug. Kind of a minor thing, but I don't exactly have a bunch of spare dust plugs lying around.4) The 1.25" adapter isn't threaded for 2" filters.Overall, still a great focuser, and I'll definitely be getting one for my next Dob (probably 12" or more).

Well Worth The Price
I have purchased from Orion before and they have always provided a quality product at a reasonable price. I purchased this because my old rack and pinion focusser on my 12.5-inch Newtonian finally stripped out after about thirty years of use. This focuser is at least as good as ones that cost much more. While it doesn't have a reduced action fine focus adjustment the oversized knobs provide plenty of control. The locking screw does just that - the focus tube will not move when it is tightened down. Other Crayford focusers I have used still allow movement when they are locked down. I have seen complaints that it isn't a factory fit for their scope. So what!? Any time I purchase a new item for my scope I expect the need to perform some sort of fabrication or modification to adapt it. The only issue I have, and it's a minor one, is that the eyepiece lock screw doesn't use a brass ferrule. But, there are two of them on the 2" tube so as to reduce or eliminate any play in any eyepiece or camera you wish to attach. Once again, well worth the price.

What a Bummer!
I was so excited when I first opened this thing up, and saw what a fine piece of equipment it is! But then when I got ready to install it on my telescope, immediately, I could see there was a big problem. And that is, there is a round protrusion on the bottom of the apparatus, that is much too large to fit into the hole my original Celestron 2 inch focusing mechanism occupies. So, it must go back, because no way am I going to try to modify my tube to fit it. That would simply be way too much of a hassle. So, be warned! If you have a Celestron, 8 inch reflecting, Newtonian style telescope, this will not fit it, without doing some serious modifications to your scope's tube. And I have a hunch Celestron uses the same configuration for their 12 inch Newtonian telescopes as well. So, if you have a Celestron 8 or 12 inch Newtonian telescope, I am thinking you will be wasting your time to try to order this particular focusing apparatus.

Used to replace rack and pinion focuser on a Newtonian reflector.
I used this focuser to replace my old rack and pinion focuser on a Meade Newtonian reflector. Every part is machined aluminum, except the rubber grips on the focus wheel. The focuser is a little large, and heavy. For Newtonian scopes keep in mind weight balance. The focus travel is smooth but short. (I wish it were longer +2"). I used a 2" centering adaptor to compensate for all the extra back travel by approx 40mm. The locking screw is good but not great. On my model it shifts the focus slightly so I have to move the focus a little, then tighten as it will move again. The focus wheels are nice and large. The 1.25" adaptor is a nice edition. The best part is no more grease for those of you who are tired of lubricating you telescope parts.

Well made, weighs an acceptable amount
Well made with a smooth, adjustable action. I like the oversize knobs- great to use with gloves.I was unable to find the weight of this focuser online, so I weighed it- 1.58 lbs with the 1 1/4" adapter. The adapter itself weighs 4 oz.

Works great on my old 10inch Meade star finder had to make a bigger hole in the tube for the focuser to fit but it was not too hard to do.
