Great product!! I did use suggestions that helped others
I am going to explain in detail so you can understand the circumstances this of this little pup because due to our jobs he does not have the normal at home house time other pups do. Let me start by saying that my husband and I team drive (we both drive) a semi over the road, while I drive he sleeps and while he drives I sleep our truck does not usually stop. Solo drivers have a mandatory 10 hour shut down daily. With that said he is in a steady moving semi truck sometimes 24 hours a day with our (1) mandatory 30 min break each. We can not stop every 2 hours for potty breaks. We got him he was 8 weeks, could only hold it about 2 hours for his age and bladder. I got potty pads and put them down well. He peed all over the truck on my rugs and the pee pad too lol when we caught him we picked him up and put him on pad, a baby has to learn. OK then we had been out for 3 months straight so over Christmas holidays we took 6 weeks off and potty training started. I set the clock he went out to grass every 2 hours (he was 10 weeks at that point) and when he woke up and also after meals. So with treat in hand we went as soon as he pottied I gave him treat every single time around the clock, I slept thru alarm maybe 3 times it is very tiring but worth it in which I found he had climbed out of his area and pottied in front of door. I thought this was just fine he tried not his fault. He stayed mostly in a area I had blocked off size of play pen so he did not have chance to get out of site and potty if I saw him start to potty I said loud and firm no potty inside!!! Grab him and ran for door to grass if he finished outside he got treat if he got finished before I reached him well we went out but no potty grass no treat. No praise, rubs and all the good boys. I litterally watched him almost every waking hour I sat within reach of him. I only left when I had to and my husband watched him and walked him but not every 2 hours I am sure and prob didn't get a treat either lol. If he pottied inside I was not told about it and that would mean husband dropped the ball not the pup. Anyway after 6 weeks it's time to go back to work and stay in truck basically 24/7 pup 3 1/2months now can hold it for 3 to 3 1/2 hours well we can not stop constantly so I found pet loo on Amazon and read every single review and their suggestions, in my mind I was hoping he would use both, outside unless of emergency then pet looand pet loo so all that no sleep and hard work was not wasted. Well I took all the advice from different reviews I got the medium he weighed 18 pounds at vet. I bought the better grass it's soft like real grass hoping he didn't know it was fake lol. It is much heavier backing but does have drainage holes but a review said not enough of them so I took a box cutter and made many more by using the point punching thru not cutting slits. Got the apple smelling potty spray Go Here, sprayed in the middle only so all surrounding areas were if aim was for middle but little body not in midlle it would still be on the potty loo. Got a handful of grass from outside and sprinkled on the soft fake grass for real grass smell. I also got the wee care cleaner. Put powder in the container to catch urine and oder control and waited to see what happened. The first day back, we weren't in a hurry to deliver a load we stopped every 3 to 4,hours and he held it every single time one time he was in such hurry when we stopped I don't know how he held it. The potty loo was that day used to played on with his toys and he laid on it to sleep and I thought oh no glorified lounge area but still hopeful as pups do all those things on real grass. No pottying on it not 1 time but the next night we got to stop for few hours in between loads and as normal we both slept, I took him out before I went to sleep, this was in truck 48 hours by now. And I was so tired I slept with alarm set for 5 hours it was all I had and I needed it, I just knew he would not make it and for the first time since we started training I slept without setting alarm for 2 or 3 hours I needed that 5 straight through, I just knew he had went on floor while I slept. I checked his blanket the pet loo and the rugs all over and nope he did not, he was sleeping also so I figured at this age maybe that's why he held it little longer because he was sleeping. But then I had went to sleep while my husband was driving after we picked up our load and slept for prob 6 more hours I knew he stopped once for him but to my shock and surprise I just checked trey when I woke not expecting anything and oh my goodness it was a yellow spot of gel where he peed it went into the container and the powder had gelled it up. I was very happy and impressed he did it. I definitely did not want to really mess him up after all that training at home to think it was ok to potty on floor of truck even if there was a potty pad down or to confuse him after all those weeks of we can only use grass to now it is all different. And I found the potty loo and it wonderful it is very sturdy made I stepped on foot on it for step just to see it did not move or give at all. I am so thankful for all the reviews that made suggestions on what helped them, so that I got it right from the beginning. I definitely recommend this product and also adding grass they peed on is recommended and I understand why I just didn't have any when i set it up the potty loo in truck so I just got handful of real grass and it worked perfect.

Wonderful! saved me so much money and my pups love it!
I have 3 chihuahuas (2 boys and 1 girl) and I live in a condominium. Prior to the Pet Loo, they were trained to use potty pads while I'm out. This was fine when i had one chihuahua but as I added my other 2 kids, buying the pads became costly. Also, when they use the pads, they get their feet wet or the wee will flow out of the pad on to the bathroom floor. So my fiancee and I looked for an alternative and found this. I let the dogs inspect the product first then put them on the grass. Then, I took one of the soiled pee pads and rubbed it on the grass. I then removed all the pads and placed the Pet Loo where the pads where. I put the dogs on the grass again one by one making sure they smell the pee that I rubbed on it. By the end of the day, they were using the pad to pee. It took them a 3-4 days more to figure out it was safe to poop on it too. I was so proud and happy because they love it. oh and the boys will pee on it too even if they're used to lifting their leg, they do a combination of squatting and lifting their leg. PROS: 1. Unlike the other products like the Pet Loo, the plastic foundation is very strong. we travel with it often. it's not flimsy at all and can support the weight of a large dog. 2. It's easy to clean. other products don't have the drainage system that the pet loo has (the cabinet you can remove that contains the wee) 3. It decreases the smell. when using puppy pads, pee is left out in the open and it smells really bad if you don't get to it right away. 4. The dogs don't get their paws wet. since the wee is drained, their feet aren't soaked in it. 5. My dogs found it a no-brainer. they understood what it was, they frequently go on grass so they got it right away. just train them and praise them. don't give up! 6. It's an investment. I don't have to rely on buying pads! 7. Lessens wastage. I don't have to throw away the pads (because I'm not using them) and it lessens garbage (as well as the smell of the garbage) CONS: 1. You have to buy a separate synthetic grass pad. You must wash the grass and it's helpful to have an extra one to put there while you're drying out the other. BUT this isn't the only reason. the Grass that comes with this order is of poor quality. it just feels like plastic (from thin plastic bags). the separate grass i got from this how ever was nicer and stronger 2. when you first buy it or clean it, the grass will shed quite frequently. I've had it for a while and there's no bald patches but for the first few times, you'll have strands of green plastic falling off Overall, we are very happy with this product and wish we had it a long time ago. :)

Happy with it
Update 2/2018: Can’t fault the product itself, it just wasn’t the right system for me. After 5 months of use, I decided to switch to regular puppy pads, and I’m so glad that I did! Yes, it was a bit of an adjustment, and she ripped up a few pads before things clicked - but after a day or so she was acclimated to the puppy pads and I chucked this thing in the trash. I am soooooo glad to be rid of this stinky, bulky thing. It was difficult to clean, held on to odors, and you certainly cannot travel with it. I hands down am so happy to have switched to regular puppy pads! 9/2017: I've been using this for the last 7 weeks with my 3 month old puppy Clover. It came on my 3rd day of having her. - Within 20 minutes of unboxing this Clover went up and used it, without any attractant spray. She never went on a puppy pad once in the previous 3 days, even though I used two different attractant sprays. She hates puppy pads and rips them up on sight. I guess she took one look at this and just knew that this was her new loo. - She had to be corrected often the first few weeks, and being that she is a small puppy she still has to be corrected sometimes. But most of the time she goes on her own now. We have had maybe 3 accidents this week, which is pretty good for a 3 month old I bet. I think it's because she is in another room from the loo and forgets/rebels... which I've corrected now and will keep her in the same room with it at all times until she gets a little older and can hold it longer. - I ordered an extra mat so that I could swap them out and dry them thoroughly in between uses. I highly recommend this, especially if you are like me and have a puppy that is very young and going every 2-3 hours. - It has a removable top, tray, and plastic inserts that go into the tray. This is nice because you really just have to rinse out the topper, and not the base of the unit. Very simple to clean this unit. - It slopes down so that the urine drips down into the plastic tray. For the most part, this keeps your pup's paws out of the urine since it is draining down into the hole. - All of the plastic parts are heavy duty, easy to rinse, and don't seem to hold odor. - It’s corner edge was cracked on arrival from shipping. The box it came in was absolutely destroyed. It wasn’t in a brown cover box, it was shipped in its actual product box and I suspect that was a contributing factor. - The wee sponge is kind of expensive for the small amount you get. - The grass mat is of good quality, but not great. Little pieces of green come out of it when I rinse it. Like all grass mats, it holds odors pretty good and so I can often still smell urine even after spraying it down good. Finally I got a good spray that's designed for cleaning artificial lawns, and that helped a lot. It's awkward to dry and drips all over the place. This would be the case for any grass mat though. - The clips that come with it don't really do much. Clover likes to take them off and run away with them. The grass mat seems to stay down fine on it's own so I threw the clips away. I'll try to update this after more use. But as of week 7 of owning this, I am very happy.

Bad design - Huge waste of Money
We live downtown on the eighth floor with slow elevators that break down a lot so potty training a puppy was too hard without finding an indoor solution. We started with PupHead grass which was working ok for us the first 10 months of potty training until our bulldog outgrew it and stared relieving himself on the sides of the grass, spilling onto the floor. We purchased this product hoping that it would be easier to clean & use by our bulldog. In theory the Pet Loo being raised was the solution since he'd have to hop on. However once he jumped off for the first time the grass went flying & freaked him out to the point he would only use the grass if we placed him on & took him off. We ended up using screws to keep the grass from moving but he'd still be shaking in fear every time we put him on it. We left it out for him for about a month to see if he'd warm up to it himself, meanwhile taking him on his daily walks 3x a day. He never did warm up to it but he did end up holding his bowels while we where at work. Cons: Poor design - grass has rubber backing which takes days to dry fully & still slips under the weight of heavy dogs Horrible smell - I rinsed every time I'd place him on it with water & clean in twice a week in the tub and it still smelled worse than the Puphead grass Eye sore - other potty grass on the market don't look as cheap as this one Pros: SInce our dog was petrified of the thing it actually ended up potty training him. We now just take him out 3-4 times a day & he's doing fine not having a place to go in the loft anymore. If I had to do it all over again I'd buy the larger version of the pup grass we had before which was a bit more expensive. We ended up tossing the Pet Loo this weekend.... I guess you get what you pay for.

Great product, when it’s complete
I’m a big fan of the product itself. The tray catches most (MOST) of the urine and with enough of the powder will convert it to a gelatin-like solid. This makes it easy to dispose of without the risk of sloshing around and spilling. If you miscalculate early, you can add more after to ensure any residual liquid is converted to the gelatinous form before moving too far. Don’t let it go too long before swapping it out, it will simply overflow and create a crystallized mess when it runs off and dries. It’s also very smelly if you don’t swap it out in time, or clean the grass periodically. I was under the impression it came with two pads and four clips. I’ve had this before and that was how it came then too. However, I’m pretty sure this was a return and was not a complete set when I got it because I only had one grass pad and two clips. This has created some challenges. 1. With only two clips, the pad fits only slightly less than the side to side measurements of the box.and therefore easily slips out of them. Being plastic, after the first use, one instantly curled up into itself and won’t penetrate the mat anymore, so I’m essentially down to one. With a solid push off, scent kick, run onto the mat, or eager jump off, the mat (and any associated solid matter) flies aside. Thankfully, my girls ( and my male cat) are well trained to the box, and will use it without the mat. However, I’d much prefer the mat stayed in place. Having only one mat also makes cleaning more complex. When there are two, one can be easily processed for cleaning and hung to dry while the other is in use. With only one, I’m forced to simply clean it and return it in a wet state, which I do not like and concern over the long term effects on the smell and bacteria it will create. I may have to break down and purchase the replacement pad and look for a clip alternative.

Senior Dog and Cat use the Pet Loo and Owner-Approved!
Awesome quality product - Pet Loo! I received zero compensation for this review. Just a happy customer trying to help other dog parents and give a nod to the manufacturer, PetSafe. Notes if helpful: The pics show 2 of the trays side by side (we purchased 2 to start as our dog is a large breed and we wanted her to feel comfortable and safe to not fall off, and to replicate “going for a walk” outside). We used the spray then also our senior dog’s own urine and real grass (sod) too to help her finally use this potty after may attempts following the directions. It was a task as she’s so well trained to NOT go potty anywhere but the grass and is such a good, sweet gal. Our next step will be to gradually remove the sod so she hopefully goes potty on the turf underneath without needing the sod (turf is included with the product). The urine trap door really works to quickly collect liquid with no leaks and is easy to clean. We will need to order more of the powder “Wee Sponge” that also comes with the product, in the box. One of our cats chooses to use this as well rather than his litter box! Whatever makes him happy is good with us as long as he doesn’t go potty on the floor. Meow. :)

The Pet Loo is a life saver!!
I am so grateful for this product and the helpful reviews posted by others. To pay it forward, I describe my experience in detail below starting with a few quick tips: 1. Place potty pads under the grass to help reduce the amount of urine that pools in the disposable container. Change pads daily. 2. Line the disposable container with plastic wrap or ziplocks. Its much easier to clean! 3. Amazon couldn't ship the absorbing powder (pee pod wee sponge) to Alaska so another review suggested using kitty litter. It works great and eliminates odor. My story: I have a 10 year old minature schnauzer who has trouble holding her urine for more than a few hours. Working as a nurse, I was sometimes gone for 13-15 hours which meant I came home to messes every night! I live in Alaska so a doggy door just isn't practical. I purchased the medium size Pet Loo and it is the perfect size for my 12 lbs dog; I wouldn't recommend anything smaller unless your dog is really tiny. To train her, I placed the Pet Loo outside and put on her leash as if we were going for a walk. Just as she squatted to potty, I picked her up and placed her on the faux grass. It took a few minutes of confused "dancing" around the Pet Loo, but eventually she went potty on grass and was rewarded with many praises and treats. I then brought the Pet Loo inside so she'd get used to it. The next day before leaving for work I segregated a section of the living room with a baby gate, put down her dog bed with the Pet Loo near by. I checked immediately upon getting home and amazingly she'd used the Pet Loo several times! She has consistently used it every day since and can now free roam the house when I'm gone. I could not be more pleased!

It looked great in theory, but doesn't work for us at all
I was excited to buy the Pet Loo because it looked like a great solution with the grass, drainage system, and absorbent medium. Unfortunately this hasn't worked for my puppy. When she sees the artificial grass, all she wants to do is bite it, tear it up, or lay on top of it. Even spraying an attractant didn't make her want to use it as a potty (but it does stink now). Part of the issue is the artificial grass seems cheap and poorly made - it's constantly shedding. You only have to touch it for pieces to fall off. Items for puppies need to be more durable and less of a choking hazard. We had to constantly fight to get strings of plastic grass out of her mouth before she swallowed them. Also the grass pad isn't well secured or covered by the edges of the structure, it's just held on loosely with 4 clips. Since all the fraying edges of grass are exposed, it looks really attractive to the puppy to bite them. We had to remove the grass completely and just tape a potty pad on top of the structure. After that our puppy would use it. But we can tell it's not comfortable for her. The drainage system makes the structure pretty tall and she has to step up high to get on it. It's harder for her to sniff and turn around the way she wants on a small high pedestal. It sounds hollow when she walks on it so it's not mimicking a natural surface at all, and the surface is tilted for the drainage system, which creates a pretty obvious slope when the grass is removed. She has to squat awkwardly on a tiny hill. If we're using potty pads instead of the drainage system anyway, there's no point to putting them on this weird structure. We've tried re-introducing the grass several times and it's just as big a disaster every time. At this point we're going to have to buy something else. I'm really disappointed this product was such a poor fit.

Works nice, but grass pad will retain urine at all times
It works great, there won't be any issue with dog kicking out a litter pellet from the box since they won't be stepping on those. it reduces the cleaning the area around the box much more convenient. what is even more convenient is that the urine will be drained to a gutter to clean, making that slightly more convenient. Iust put a cat litter clay in it, scoop that area away and done. In exchange of that convenience, now you will have a grass pad retaining urine that won't dry as fast, making the box smell despite cleaning and give your dogs a wet urine feet to walk around your house. Not even hot water will get rid of the urine. To me, this is a quite a disappointment for such a high price on this.

Great product for small dogs, with some modifications
I love this product BUT, I do NOT use the wee sponge powder at all and don't recommend it for the following reasons: 1. endless costs. 2. The used pod and gel have to be black binned. I'm not keen on creating more waste. 3. It may gel days worth of pee and lock in the odour, but it does NOTHING to keep the pee smell from building up in the turf, which will reek like pure evil in a week or two. Here is my system: 1. Get a big bottle of EZ Clean enzyme liquid. This is WAY better than Nature's Miracle or Scout as it's unscented (the others make your house smell like a clean dog kennel), it's safe (you can even spray down your lawn or pet with it if you have a skunking incident) and it's super concentrated, so 1 gallon can make up to 50 gallons of liquid. 2. Get one of those screw on bottle toppers for a plastic beverage bottle that turns the bottle into a sprinkler for plants [mine is a Bottle Cap Sprinkler, 2 In1 Mini Watering Can that looks like a little flower]. 3. Put an inch or two of EZ clean in a 1L water bottle (I use a big smart water bottle and it's perfect), and add the cap. Keep handy near the Pet Loo. 4. Put the empty plastic pee tray liner in without the gel 5. Once or twice a day, give your green topper a good sprinkling with the liquid. I use a cup or more. Wait 5 mins for it to drain through, then dump the pee tray, give it a quick swish with water, then replace it. Do not rinse off the ez clean. The enzymes need time to work. The enzyme will build up in your turf and be reactivated when the dog pees on it. It barely builds up any smell at all and the pee tray just gets dumped in your toilet. Seriously, I'm having to keep this thing in my bathroom right now (we're renovating) and there is zero smell. Trust me about the EZ Clean. Before I started this method my mats built up a ferocious stench. I was alternating between them and soaking the dirty one in pure nature's miracle overnight. I was using 1-2 gallons of natures miracle and month and hated the cheap perfume smell of the house, plus it only reduced the smell, but did not remove it. The cost of the Nature's Miracle and pee gelling powder was getting prohibitive and I needed to replace the top mat often. Yes, I tried buying astroturf from the hardware store. It did NOT work well. It's not porous enough and the pee rolled off, plus it was wasteful as I had to replace it a lot. Now I can hose off my mat really well every few weeks and it's fine. The enzymes really prevent pee buildup. FYI: to train your dog to use it, start by giving him a treat just for getting up on it. If it is on a slippery floor, put a bit of that nonslip material beneath it because if it slides it will make your dog hate it or fear it. Once the dog is getting up on it, you can start putting him there when it's pee time. I say "piddle" when he goes, and now he will piddle on command. He gets a liver snap when he pees on it. He's quite happy with it -- he sometimes tries to muster up some pee to get liver, heh. My dog is a toy fox terrier and he cannot go out on really cold days. This thing is a life saver.
