What was I expecting vs what I got. First, I have a GoSky 20-60 at 60mm it feels cheap and lightweight. It also is very dark. It is crisp and not soft. The Vortex is crisp thru the entire magnifying band. The light from the 85mm is the huge difference. I expected it to soften up in the higher magnification but that it not noticeable. What is noticeable is the chromatic aberration. It's HUGE in this glass. I am a professional photographer and I did not buy this for photography. I bought it for hunting and sighting in my scope. The color difference does not bother me. I will post a video where you can see this. I am happy with the build and quality. For under $500 it's exceptional. My wife and I use vortex products while eagle watching and we're adding this to our tools. The focus ring and the magnification dial are not hard to turn. I have no need for the padded sleeve it came with. I use a tripod always. You'll need a strong tripod as the weight will sag your lightweight tripod. After you get it, you'll want to carry it with you always. I have a work vehicle where I can do that. It's an excellent man toy and would make an excellent gift. Look for the purple spot in the middle of the glass on the video.

Initially I loved this scope, considering it a good value, and I still think it is, unless you often use it at full magnification. I used it to view shorebirds, who are often far enough out to need full mag and I could not get it to focus sharp enough to view the fine details that I needed to identify similar species vs one another. The build quality seems fantastic, it looks great, and is super easy to use, but not quite enough detail for my needs so I wound up returning it. I fear a significant investment is needed to get the quality of Glass you need for long distance birding where detail is a must, but if you don't need to use it at full magnification often, I'd still say go for it but realize you're not getting a 2K spotter here but still very nice I bet for most and it's built like an absolute tank.

I use it for birding and finding rare birds in area or across large bodies of water/ brush. It’s great to use and the detail is amazing. Rule of thumb: larger the lens, more light and detailed the image is. Have fun looking at the moon at maximum zoom. You can easily see all the little details.

This scope is incredible. Can clearly spot deer and elk 7 miles away. I’m blown away.

Product arrived on time as advertised. Features and covers are nice. FOV does drop at max zoom more then I expected but this is my first spotting scope so I have nothing to compare it with. Glass is great, I can pick out fine details at 300 yards (based on initial unboxing and looking around the neighborhood). There is some purple fringing depending on the objects in view but so far I'm very happy. Next test is at the range with paper targets at 500 yards.

I purchased this for my husband who used a spotting scope for years on the job and recreationally. On a move a few years back, he let it go with other items he did not want to ship to his new home. I know nothing about spotting scopes so I had to research. I was nervous about my choice until last week when he took it into the field. He loves it. 'Loves it. He threatened to take it to bed with him, it's such a beautiful instrument.

Impressed with quality of the scope for the price. Optics are impressive.

I have other vortex products never had any problems. This vortex spotting scope appears to have a flaw when you take it outside were it is hot the big focus ring starts sticking when you try to turn it.

I have only had the scope for a few weeks, but I'm very happy so far. It is far superior to my old Bushnell scope with a higher power and better clarity. It is a bit heavier than my old scope, but I'm willing to put up with that for the better optics. I'm looking forward to spring birding season.
