THESE JEANS ARE FAKE
Was not happy with the authenticity of these Original 501 Levi Jeans. So much so I contacted Levi about them. After sending them an image of them they have confirmed I was right in thinking they are fake. "ALL LEVI JEANS SHOULD HAVE LEVI AND AN R IN A CIRCLE PRINTED ON THE RED TAB ON THE BACK RIGHTHAND POCKET OF THE JEANS". They seem good quality but I never got what I paid for, Original 501 Levi Jeans. So no matter what the sellers are saying the really are fake.

Are Levi's 501 supposed to be made from cheap stretchy denim?
Brought these to replace me old, much loved 501's. These are nothing like my old ones. Firstly they are made from 'stretchy denim' not the standard denim you would expect. I brought exactly the same size as my old ones, but these are bigger. Finally, the material and the finish seems very cheap. Either Levis have lowered their standards or these simply are not genuine (I favour the latter!). Beware if you by these.

Fit completely wrong
I am unsure whether these are fake, factory rejects, or Levi's have modified the fit of 501s. This was my first pair of 501s I have bought in 3 years. They are normally my preferred fit but of recent found it difficult to find affordable pairs in the colours I want whenever I've been looking for new jeans. 501s and Wrangler's Arizona stretch are amongst the few decent quality trousers available amongst the trend towards heavily tapered or slim fit. Compared to most trousers 501s actually sit comfortably and give your legs enough room when walking. As soon as I put on this pair though something felt off. Without a belt they didn't sit comfortably round my waist as I'm use to with 501. The seat of the trousers sits lower and it constantly feels like they are sliding down. The pockets are further round towards the front than normal and I noticed my knees are being restricted by the material when walking. As it's been 3 years since I bought a pair I thought it might just be initial 'stiffness' of the material. After wearing them outside though the issues became more apparent, with the material riding up into my crotch and with items in the front pockets it was much more obvious the pockets are definitely in a different position to most jeans - and all my previous pairs of 501s.I decided to compare this new pair to a couple of older pairs I have. Whilst the cut of the older pairs are near identical, the new ones are a good 1.5 inches longer in the leg and the seams where the front and back half of the trousers are sowed together are ever so slightly closer to the front. In other words, there is less front material and more back compared to the older pairs. I am leaning towards these being factory rejects rather than fake. The fly buttons and patch on the back waist are identical to the older pairs. Also the tags looks genuine enough compared to the shoddy job you normally see with fake labels. Just wish I had decided to do the side-by-side comparison before wearing them outside. Looks like these are destined for a charity collection.

It does not fit right. I believe they may be fake
Legs are way two long while rise is too tight and uncomfortable. I have a pair of Originals 511, I did order the same size for these pairs of 501's and it is nowhere even near in size and comfortablility compared to my other pair. I found few anomalies and inconsistencies compared to the other pair I bought from a Levi's shop that make me think these are fake. For instance the inside of the left pocket is not printed and the number in the back of the main button does not match with the one inside the info labels. I could also tell the leather of the waistband in the back was worse quality and with irregularities that usually indicates these are fake.

i would still buy them
i am 70 years old and have been wearing 501s since i was 15, then they were £2/10s a pair shrink to fit. they were the best jeans in the world and very heavy wieght material lasted ages, now they are still good but no where near the quality they were, not a bad price for today i supose considering the rrp is about £80, but not the jeans they were. bring back the 60s ha ha.

Great fitting jeans especially if you are tired of mainstream high street tapered/slim fit jeans.
My first ever pair of 501's, always wore Wrangler as a youngster but now aged 55 I decided to try out some new jeans. Well the High Street outlets were awful with nobody stocking the type of fit and style that I loved in the 80's, all the jeans I tried on were slim fit and/or tapered leg, ok I am not a slim chap but some of them I could barely get my feet through never mind past my knees !Every shop I went into stocked the same style and fit of jeans, they all seemed to be very thin material too with a horrible leg fit not suitable for a man of my age.My son told me to try Amazon for a pair of 501's and bingo he was right. The style, the shape, the quality of material (very thick, unlike the high street brands I tried) and the size (waist 42 leg 32 - believe it or not I am not fat merely tall at 6ft 2inch) was perfect. These are genuine items, amazing quality and a very good mid/late 80,s style, not too loose not too slim fit, you know what I mean if you lived through those times. I have recently been watching some DVD's of both The Smiths, Tears For Fears and Simple Minds and their jeans must have been 501's , well that is what mine are like, stone washed, really thick material with button fly - sure, not the easiest of ways especially if in a rush to go to the loo but they will ease off in time. These are genuine Levi 501 jeans, bought directly from Amazon, not third party sellers ( please note these may also be genuine items but from looking at the various photos posted up of the "leather" rear patch, there is one big difference that shows them to be fakes). So buy in confidence from Amazon and wear a piece of history.
