While gas saws are the only way for big jobs, the electric saw is great for small jobs. I think the saw should have a better chain tensioner,, I'm still giving it 5 stars. I put an 18'' chain on it and the tensioner broke. My own fault! I went ahead, and designed a better chain tensioner. Works great, and saw has great motor, and battery!

It is a chain saw. We bought it because the deal was awesome. It came today no battery or charger in a box that clearly says included. All we want are the battery and charger that we paid for

This Kobalt electric chainsaw was super easy to assemble and worked perfectly right out of the box. I used it to take down a small tree in my yard, and it handled the job without any trouble at all. It’s lightweight but still has plenty of power, which makes it great for someone who doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of gas tools. I’ve always liked Kobalt, but this tool really made me a believer in electric options—they’re quieter, cleaner, and just as effective for the kind of yard work I need. I’d definitely recommend this to friends and family, and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat if I needed to.

Nice addition to my set of Kobalt 40 volt tools. Short blade, but cuts well up to 6" diameter.

I purchased this chainsaw to trim some small trees in my yard. Missed the Spring window so waited until fall to do the trimming. The chainsaw broke on first use. Specifically, there is a dial to tighten or loosen the chain. That dial was not working so I could not properly tighten the chain and the chain kept coming off the bar during use. It was my fault that I missed the return window for this seller, but I was not worried because Kobalt has a 5 year warranty. When I tried to call Kobalt, I found that they don't directly deal with warranty claims but instead you have to go back through your seller to get a replacement. This seller is not an authorized seller for this product and that is not clear on the seller page, so I can't get a replacement. I had never heard of a warranty having to be handled this way and learned the hard way. Be careful and make sure your seller is an authorized seller or just go to Lowes for Kobalt and you will be safe. In summary, this chainsaw was trash and broke on first use and be careful with Kobalt to only purchase from an authorized seller so product warranty will be honored. Or just don't delay using it to be able to return before return window closes. :(

For years I've only used gas powered chain saws. I have other Kobalt battery powered yard tools so I figured to give this a chance. Love it! So powerful, quiet, and I felt safer with this than the gas models. I only have small trees/brush (4"-5") so I haven't tested the unit with thicker cuts. I believe this could handle more. I also take this and cut beneath my fence line to remove prickers and such too big for my trimmer.

Very satisfied with chainsaw. Lightweight but does my yard work very satisfactorily.
