.com At long last, Minnie Riperton fans have a collection that does the extraordinary vocalist justice. This two-CD set is a gorgeous testament to her talents--her breathtaking, five-and-a-half octave range, her incredible versatility, and the exquisite, inimitable artistry Riperton brought to everything she did throughout her all-too-brief career, which ended tragically in 1979 when she succumbed to breast cancer at the age of 31. Though best known for her 1974 chart-topper, "Lovin' You," Riperton had a remarkable stylistic range that is showcased on this 35-track collection, which includes previously hard-to-find material such as "Lonely Girl" (a melodramatic ballad of puppy love that provides a glimpse of a young Minnie's already-impassioned vocal delivery), and tracks from her stint as a singer for psychedelic rock outfit Rotary Connection. All of Riperton's most popular tunes are here, but the collection's rewards come in discovering the singer in new ways: as a funkateer ("Young, Willing and Able"), a seductress ("Can You Feel What I'm Saying"), and a samba queen ("Could It Be I'm in Love"). And inspired collaborations with legends such as guitarist Jose Feliciano ("Light My Fire") provide delightful portraits of Riperton's innate musicality and her ear for improvisation. --Sylvia W. Can't Stop Playing This
This is a must have for all music lovers. Minnie Riperton was (and still is) one of the most underrated R&B singers of all time. She and Donny Hathaway were so talented and maybe too deep, that people often ignored their talents. Sadly, both left us too soon. But they left a musical legacy that remains untouched. It appears that Minnie is finally getting some respect with this release of some of her best songs. Although this collection has over 30 songs, this album leave you wanting more. It's a shame that Capital Records has not release all her albums for the US market (she deserves better than this). I must say the entire package of this collection is well done. Never before unseen pictures of the beautiful Minnie and a nice write up about her career makes the price worth it. Anyway, I am totally blown away by this lady's talents. She could do it all with opera, go-go, R&B, disco, pop, rock, jazz, soul, folk, Latin and even a bit of country. Her songwriting was very unique (her ways of talking about love and life makes you smile), but it was the passion of her voice that made you believe in what she was singing about. I also like the fact that she was different from other soul singer who like to scream out their songs. Not Minnie. She took her time to sing, so you could feel what she were saying. If you love good music and is a beginner to Minnie's world , this gem is a must have!!

Love Me Some Minnie
This woman was so ahead of her time musically speaking. My only regret is that I didn't appreciate her more while she was alive. Saw a story about her life on TV's Unsung which renewed my interest in her and prompted me to purchase this CD, which by the way, is a gem. I love that it's kind of like a minnie ( no pun intended) anthology because there are songs from all of her albums on here, even hard to find songs. Am SO happy I found this CD. Was kind of hard to find so I bought it used and was blessed with an excellent copy. You get a sampling of her more eclectic, folksy work from her early days, songs that didn't make the top 40's but are great never the less, and then of course her main stream hits. It's all on here. If you love Minnie Riperton and want some of everything she ever did, you are going to be so happy with this CD.

She should have been a superstar!!!
The voice I love and was taken from us all too soon. Minnie was fantastic, one of the most beautiful voices the world has ever known but she was more than that. An interracial marriage at a time when it was not common or accepted and her and Dick Rudolph made it work. A woman faced with death who not only kept performing but made public announcements tell women to have themselves checked for breast cancer.Unappreciated by many today but an influence on so so many current singers. We need to do a movie about her life!

Minnie Riperton pave the way, for other female whistle vocal singers
This is a great! double cd' there is no way that, I would pay $ 59-$ 79.00 for this CD. When it first came out on Amazon, I only paid $ 19.99 which is what the price should be. The seller is way over pricing this cd, Minnie Riperton. Is from my home town Chicago, and when I was a kid. We my family use to deliver, new papers to the Riperrton's. I am 59 yrs old and who! would have never thought. That Mrs. Riperton would be as gifted and blessed, with a six octave range that she had. She paved the way for music artist like Mariah Carey, Michelle Fharrell, Chante Moore. And other female artist that can, whistle sing with their vocals. So for Minnie Riverton fans, I would wait on Amazon prime for this to be sold for $19.99. How do you think Minnie Riperton's husband Richard Rudolph, who! also helped her write and produce a lot of her music. And he produced a lot of music for the late Teena Marie, who! Minnie Riperton both were great! friends and also Deniece Williams. And what do you think her daughter Maya Rudolph, would think of her mother's albums being sold overpriced to her loving fans.

Comprehensive Overview
This is the best overview out there. It has the 1960's lesser know songs plus the 1970's ones most people know. Don't look for "loving you" in all her songs and you will enjoy the set. It may take a few spins to embrace her style or her high pitch voice, but it will be worth it. There are two single best of collections that cover each of the periods, but this is the only one that covers them both.

Not for the faint of heart ... Or sensitive hearing
Unless you are a die-hard Minnie fan (and already familiar with her work beyond "Lovin' You") I would suggest not purchasing this set. It was very difficult to listen to from start to finish. My husband requested that I turn it off. My cats ran and hid in another room. I'm not trying to be mean. I wasn't really familiar with her work except "Lovin' You" which is one of my favorite songs. Perhaps if this music were mixed in a random shuffle with other artists it would be more tolerable (my player doesn't shuffle or play random disks). I should have purchased only the mp3 of "Lovin' You" and saved money. I apologize for leaving a negative review, but it is my honest opinion.
