Comfortable shorts with great quality fabric
Good quality fabric, fit just right, like the rear pockets with velcro tab on both ends of flap to keep the flaps from curling up over time

Reasonable for the price
Hangs just above the knee. The sizing is on point, but generous. 11" inseam is great. Side pocket depth is good, flaps adequate. I like the velcro closures on the pocket flaps. I dont use the rear pockets. No current problem with my stitching, after 1 wash. Fabbed in Shri Lanka. Fabric is decent thickness and soft. Minimal number of belt loops. I like the color (Android), it looks like the pic. 1 point off for the zipper, which the up/down movement is not smooth, concern the this may limit the life of the shorts. Also the belt is a waste of material. Should can the belt and put that savings into a better, smoother operating zipper, then I'd give these shorts a 5! But from a price standpoint, I would recommend.

Slightly loose fit, but true to size
I initially bought these a size larger after reading some reviews (I'm slightly larger than a 34 in dress pants, and was worried that the size 34 shorts would be too tight). The pants are usable with the belt, but fit much better when I later ordered them in my usual size (slightly loose, and only requiring a little bit of tightening in the belt).Overall, I like these. They have deep slash pockets and good sized cargo pockets (albeit with velcro, rather than buttons). The material is also nice and thick and looks like it will last for a while. While I ultimately found I'm not a big fan of the belted style, as it's just one more step in getting the pants on or off, it's hard to complain about something that was literally written in the product title. Also this is more of a small inconvenience, and I still wear these shorts regularly. Oh, and because they're still a bit of a loose fit, going beltless means there's a good chance that if I'm carrying something in both hands for a long enough distance, I'd have to start adjusting my walking stance to try and coax the pants to ride back up just enough to not end up around my ankles. But I just use the pants with the belt, cinch it in a bit, and avoid the unpleasant sight of people trying to claw their own eyes out.Would and have bought again, so as to have a range of colors to choose from.

I just bought two more pair, but they still get a mediocre rating
Over the years I've bought these shorts in 5 different sizes. Thankfully, I'm buying them smaller these days. That said, three stars is what they get.--The good news: If you are in the "big & tall" phase of your life, these fit. I have bought 5 other brands of shorts in the SAME SIZES as my Unionbay inventory . . . and they ALL fit much tighter, some to the point that I can't pull them up. Unionbay are sturdy and wear well. The cargo pockets are roomy and, so far, I've never had anything fall out of them. Those other 5 brands I mentioned? None of them have cargo pockets large enough to deserve the name "cargo". If I put same stuff I easily fit into my Unionbay cargo pockets into one of these other brands, I can't close the pockets and/or have to leave some items out. If you hike or work in your shorts, that matters. Finally, the front pockets are DEEP. If you work or outdoor recreate in your shorts, you know what I mean. Other brands front pockets are so shallow that I have regularly had stuff fall out of them when working on ladders or hiking a steep stretch of trail.--The bad news . . . and it's not terrible, just aggravating: Unionbay is VERY stingy on belt loops. You get 5. That's it. If you are on the big end of the spectrum this gets uncomfortable as you will often find the waistline of your shorts unsupported and sagging below your belt. My Wrangler short have NINE loops and the other brands I've bought all have at least 7. I get it. Four fewer belt loops probably save say 10 cents a pair of shorts which, times 5 million pair of shorts is a half million more profit. Fine, but it's not like we're paying a bargain price for Unionbay. Of the 6 brands I've bought, Unionbay is the MOST expensive. So... ???Also, and this will seem a bit petty unless you live in shorts like I do: Their offerings show 16 color choices, BUT until you hit size 42, all you get are 4 choices. Why? Oh, and none of the choices at any size include a green cammie choice. From what I see on the streets, that is a very popular color, but not for Unionbay. So I will keep buying them for the fit and pockets, but they will get three stars because they want a top price but skimp on belt loops and they apparently think anyone over size 42 is colorblind.Add some belt loops and I'll forgiver everything else.
