Really kinda ticked off!
I ordered History of the American Soldier print Poster... what I got were two separate posters; History of the American Marine and History of the American Navy! No warning or disclaimer that this was what I was going to get... just a blatant and bold-faced lie/false advertising! I gave it two stars because the posters that did come look good and are the size I expected, but I am really pissed off that someone advertised one thing to me, allowed me to pay them, and then said just kidding and gave me something I didn't want. Don't get me wrong, I respect the hell out of the Navy and Marines, but I am a teacher and wanted the History of the American Soldier poster because we are near an Army base and many of my students know people in the Army and are thinking about enlisting in the Army (Not Navy or Marines) out of High School. From the advertised picture, it appears to display mostly historical Army uniforms, which makes sense since that seeing as "The American Soldier" just as a general term would refer to the common foot soldier/infantry, which historically was Army. It would have been perfect for my room and my students... but instead I got lies in place of a genuine product. Also, the posters seem very random in terms of Rank and Role. For example, the Marine one goes, Sgt., Pvt., Sgt. Major, Pvt., Sgt., Lt., Pvt, and so on. And like I said, such random roles. For the Navy one it goes Able Seaman, Captain, Commander, Quartermaster, Patrol, Gunner's Mate, etc. I get that this shows us the uniforms for a bunch of different ranks and roles, but what's the point of a timeline if it's a different thing being displayed each time? How then do you observe change over time (what a timeline is for) when the thing being observed changes with each unit of time? That's like having a Timeline of American State History and showing a different State with each decade. You learn what anyone state looked like in the decade displayed, but you don't learn a progression or chronology! It should have just been all Seamen (or the historical equivalent) and all Pvt.-Cpl. Level Combat Marines so that you could see the change in uniform. I don't know what they were thinking, maybe they just chose the rank and/or role with the most aesthetically pleasing and cool looking uniform? These two posters also leave out some very important wars/conflicts (also, the Marine on calls the Mexican-American War the "War with Mexico" for some reason?). It's not like I was expecting them to include Grenada or Panama or the Venezuelan Crisis. I was hoping for some American Indian Wars uniforms, but I guess it makes sense that those weren't included because those wars spanned over 100 years... but how in the hell does the Spanish-American War not appear on either poster!? It was short, but it was arguably one of America's top 3 most important wars (not counting The Revolution which occurred before our current government really existed); 1. Civil War which divided but then ultimately helped draw together our young nation, 2. the Spanish-American War in which we beat on of the world's strongest empires in full out combat on the high-seas and on foreign territory establishing us as a World Power, and World War II which gave us global economic, political, and militaristic influence and elevated us to a Super Power. Plus, the White Navy (during Spanish-American War and after), perhaps America's most flamboyant period of militarism, had some great uniforms. Why not include them?On both of these fronts, the advertised poster (the one I ordered but didn't get) seems like it would have fit my expectations. Though the image is fuzzy it looks like it includes mostly foot soldier enlisted grunt (Mostly Army and some Marine) uniforms from the Revolution through modern times and, once again hard to see, but appears to include a Spanish-American War uniform. That's the one I wanted. Instead I was cheated.
