Carmilla and Laura

Fantastic read
As I am writing this review on my kindle, I shall keep this particular review short and sweet.I absolutely loved this book. From the writing style, to even the simple retelling of an old story of carmilla. Everything flowed so well.I also appreciated the intimate moments Carmilla and Laura shared. Sometimes people can get a little, well raunchy when they write these scenes. I tend to skip over them because that's not why I read these types of books.I have always been a fan of vampires and all things that go bump in the night. And this story floored me with how well done it was. It is a tad short and I finished it in a single sitting. But I still loved every moment.I would ABSOLUTELY love to see a continuation of the book. Possibly continuing with the professor, which is hinted at the epilogue. Maybe our favorite vampires taken a fancy to the professors interest and seek to reclaim the diary. Who knows. But I would love that so much.I look forward to further books by this author.I'm starting to ramble and I'm sure my thoughts are rather scattered. But just know this is definitely worth every penny, and moment of your time.

A MUST READ for Carmilla fans!
I've been a fan of the Carmilla web-series for years now. I just recently finished a rewatch and was craving for more content. I had always meant to read the original Carmilla novel, but never got to it. I still plan to read it, even more so now. Though I'm glad I decided to go with this book first. The writing is amazing and pulled me in almost instantly. Simper has a beautiful and rich way with words that made me feel like I was in that world with them. It was a quick read, one I burned through maybe a bit too fast. I wish I had savored it because now that I'm finished I want more! The ending makes me wish there was a modern continuation, but even if not I thoroughly enjoyed this phenomenal story. I will definitely be sitting down to read this again and again, I LOVED it!!!

Great Adaptation
I have read and enjoyed the original Le Fanu "Carmilla". S D's book fleshes out the story very nicely and I found it quite well done. Her version has a lot of neat plot twists and presents (her) explanations of people and events from the original that weren't as developed by Le Fanu. I usually read history/non-fiction but also enjoy a good vampire tale. This book definitely fits in that category.

I loved the book. Oddly, I literally put my imagination into it, it became my existence throughout its duration. I read alot and this has been , for me, my best and favourite literary experience. I can say nothing else lest you think i am obsessed.
There was no liking anything the most, I simply loved it entirely. The only thing that i liked least was that the book ended. I feel a sense of loneliness with its conclusion. I'll read Carmilla and Laura again real soon.

A Lovely Retelling of Carmilla
I thoroughly enjoyed this retelling of Carmilla. The author has added details to elucidate Carmilla's last and also gives us a glimpse of Carmilla's momma. The original work makes Carmilla's intentions murky, which I loved. In contrast this story makes the characters thoughts and feelings much more clear which I also loved.

Love it
Well written story about my favorite vampire? What's not to love? I'm always a sucker for these two, but I find this one to be superb. 10/10 will read again

Amazing!
A beautiful, well written story! It is do rare to find a lesbian romance that isn't ridiculously tragic or full of stereotypes!

A delightful lesbian Victorian romance <3
Okay, guys, first and foremost… holy frickin' hopping frog balls. This book has been an experience. One I am just gonna come out and say right off the bat… you should absolutely repeat for yourself!!! Carmilla and Laura, by SD Simper, is a retelling of a classic vampire novella I haven’t personally read. Ergo, I can’t speak to this re-imagining’s authenticity to the original or in what ways the author might have spiced things up or gone her own direction. All I can say is this was a delightful read. It took some turns I most definitely wasn’t expecting, but they fit the story and only made me love the characters more in the end.The chemistry between Carmilla and Laura was divine, and the intimate scenes truly felt as such. While, yes, y’all know I’m a fan of erotica and adore me some well done smut, I’m also a huge fan of romance. And Carmilla and Laura? They have some beautiful romantic moments. So many happy little sighs.I particularly enjoyed being in Laura’s head while she struggled with her growing love. The conflict was done so very, very well, which is why the discovery of Carmilla’s true nature hit as hard as it did. But I won’t delve further. No spoilers here! 😍Overall, the writing is gorgeous, the story is enthralling, and the characters are lovable. It was a very quick read, one in which I read in one sitting and found myself frowning because it was already over. I am definitely adding SD Simper to my Writers to be Watched list! I would recommend this story to anyone who loves vampires, adores sweet historical romance, and/or who wants a delicious little snack of a book to while away an afternoon.

Queer period vampire romance
This story is an incredible adaptation of the novella. Fans of the novella and the web series alike will love this book. Perfectly written, delicate approach, a celebration of the original with a modern twist.

Yet another incredible story from a fantastic author!
I've been following SD Simper since the release of her first book, The Sting of Victory. In this tale, she takes a gothic legend and makes it her own. Her writing style is captivating and beautiful. Laura's story is full of longing and unfulfilled promise. When Carmilla comes into the picture, it opens Laura's mind to possibilities she never knew existed. Carmilla's mysterious past only makes the story more intriguing. You know there is something dark around the corner but it keeps you guessing. The love they ultimately discover, despite the impossibility of their circumstances, is so beautifully done I found myself cheering them on. The story will grab at your heartstrings and keep you hooked the entire time. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see more from this author!!!

The version we never knew we needed
This book is, without a doubt, the version of carmilla we needed. In the beginning of the book the writter states that she wasn't sure if she deserved to write it, but Oh boi does she deserve it.With every new page I got more and more into it and at the end I just couldn't stop and I read it a second time. I did this just to make sure that I didn't miss anything. The writer uses a lot of references from other old books and this made me want to read those too.I definitely recommend this book. If you are doubting it, just stop and buy it.
