Baseplate with Dual 15mm Rod Clamp

This SMALLRIG base plate kit is great—it feels solid, locks in well, and makes it easy to build out a proper rig with 15mm rods and lens support. It works nicely with my camera/cage setup and adds a lot of stability for shooting.

I recently purchased the Camera Base Plate, and it has proven to be an essential addition to my camera rig. The build quality is solid, providing a stable foundation for my equipment. This item came in yesterday. Ordered on Sunday Jan 10th, arrived the 19th from China to Chicago suburb(MLK holiday may have delayed it by a day) Out of the box instantly impressed. The plate is SOLID. Flat black metal, thick. Solid quality. Same goes for the screws. I thought I would have to replace them but negative. They are keepers too. I bought this for my Canon C100's shoulder rig and it's been on there ever since. Been doing some test such as holding it upside down over my bed to test the quality of the screws and other things to make sure it isn't just too good to be true of a steal. Other basis I've seen from Ikan and Shape Are from $150-$200 and that's just insane for a baseplate in my opinion. This cost $50 and I'm so fricking happy with this purchase. It tightens just fine too. Knobs are good, they are a little small though. I took some from Kamerar shoulder rig's baseplate so all of mine on the rig would be the same so I could tighten them with a wrench if need be. The ones that come with tighten just fine. For me it's more for uniformity, plus I have big fingers. Buy with confidence. I'll be certain to buy more items from Smallrig. If you are building a rig for a camcorder I suggest this baseplate with a cheaper DSLR shoulder rig like the Kamarer one here on Amazon or build your own. It's SOLID.

I purchased the base plate to use with my Sony a7IV camera and SmallRig cage. The base plate itself seems well made out of metal with nice rubber padding on the bottom. The 15mm rod rail clamp is very sturdy and solid when attached. My issue is that this base plate is not specifically made for the SmallRig cage designed for the a7IV. When used together, you can only attach one of the screws to mount the plate to the cage. The other screw hole does not line up properly. This leaves the setup feeling less secure and stable than if both screw holes could be utilized. It works but is not an ideal fit. Overall it's a quality base plate that works, just not perfectly matched for the a7IV cage.

UPDATE 20170413 Still so pleased with smallrig gear. Years later, works perfectly. Happy with their carbon rails as well. This is such an excellent product! I spent so much more for so much less. This is now my main base for my fs7, replacing a much more frustrating and expensive design. My favorite feature of this base is that one can easily attach 2 screws to the bottom of the camera to prevent twisting. It is quick and easy to completely remove from the camera to change out from tripod to glidecam. Smallrigs customer service is top notch as well, quickly offering to refund me when I accidentally purchased 2 of these. I like it so much that I am keeping a second for a spare/b-rig. Thank you smallrig! I will be getting more of you hardware!

Die Basisplatte ist genau das, was man für ein solides Setup braucht. Sie ist sauber verarbeitet, hält Kamera und 15 mm Rods sicher und lässt sich schnell ins Rig integrieren. Nichts wackelt, alles sitzt fest – egal ob mit Käfig oder direkt an der Kamera. Für mich eine zuverlässige Platte, die in keinem Rig fehlen sollte, besonders zu dem Preis.
