They shape their footwear like an actual foot. Pretty cool. For this particular version of Keen, the sizing is accurate. I wear an 11 in most shoes and a 45 in Birkenstock shoes/boots. I ordered the 11s and they fit great. I plan to put some miles on these sandals. The Velcro straps are very secure even after 6 years of heavy wear, they are as good looking and comfortable as they originally came. The rubber soles are thick and very heavy duty for canoeing, kayaking, hiking and climbing, all of which we have been doing for almost 40 years. My husband was so impressed by how rugged they are, he also bought a pair and wears them pretty much everyday in the summer time. These are also a very good price on desertcart. The strap at the ball of the foot appears to probably give an extra 1/2" to 1" adjustment and may accommodate an extra wide foot. In any case there appears to be lots of adjustment you can do. This sandal is probably the most comfortable one I ever wore. **Q: Is walking in salt water at the beach bad for the leather on these sandals?** A: Isn’t salt water bad for all leather?
