De Cecco Penne Rigate No. 41 Pasta, 16 Oz

De Cecco Penne Rigate is a great pantry essential. The pasta has a nice texture, cooks evenly, and holds sauce well thanks to the ridges. It’s perfect for everything from classic marinara to creamy sauces and baked pasta dishes. The 16-ounce package is a convenient size for a family meal, and the quality is consistently good. Definitely a dependable choice for keeping on hand for quick, easy, and delicious dinners.

Our picky family loves DeCecco pastas. It can be a pricier than the generic market brand or Barilla but it's well worth the price IMO. I put this on our monthly subscribe and save so we never forget or run out and it saves us a few pennies or I stock up when it goes on sale. Now for the important part - the flavor and texture. We cook our pasta al dente. The penne pasta has an excellent flavor and the texture is firm, never mushy, and does not fall apart. It has a nice chewy bite. It has a slightly course surface that allows the pasta sauce to stick to the surface. One box can feed our hungry family of 5 with a few sides and lots of meat sauce. We've also tried making our own homemade pasta but after a few tries, conceded that DeCecco is just superior and tastes better without the extra work. Just grab it, I promise you won't regret trying.

De Cecco dried pasta products are without a doubt, my favorite. Made in Italy, slow dried and delicious. When it comes to dry pasta, if I can't get De Cecco, I don't get any at all. It's why I order it from Amazon, because my local supermarket doesn't carry all the shapes and varieties I regularly use.

This really is a very good-quality product, and worth the extra money, but I have to admit it's not quite to my personal liking. I tried it based on it being made like traditional pasta with semolina flour and durum wheat, is extruded through bronze dies, not Teflon-coated ones, and the pasta is hung on racks and air dried, not heat blasted. It promises a firmer and denser texture. All true. However, the chewy, bulkier texture wasn't quite to my taste and it seemed a bit "doughy." If you haven't used this product before, try one box to see if you prefer it over the more commercially-made brands.

Best pasta over the counter, hands down. The starch is clutch for making the sauce stick, and De Cecco delivers. Getting this pasta, makes it really, really hard to get any other brands because the finish is so perfect.
