Precisely centered holes for an otherwise difficult shelf mount project
Worked great to install 5' x 8" x1.5" live oak floating shelf. As should be expected, precise measuring of holes is vital. The jig ensured perfectly centered, properly deep holes. I would not have wanted to attempt such drilling without this jig set.

Excellent quality
This is perfect for my needs. Made a cypress mantel attached to a beam 12 in thick and use this jig for the mounting bracket. All hardware and direction are easy to understand too. I screwed the jig where needed and the drilled. Very easy and use oil for the bit.

Good for light work
This product would be fine for soft woods like pine, but for hard woods it leaves a lot to be desired. I read the instructions, assembled the jig, and got started. The instructions do not mention drilling pilot holes for the screws that hold the jig to the shelf, but this is always recommended to avoid splitting the wood or, with hard wood, just getting the screws into the shelf without stripping the screws. I used the jig to drill two holes into the shelf, which went fairly well, but by the end of removing the jig from the shelf for the second time one screw was completely stripped. It's easy enough to replace the screw, but I wanted to point it out. I assume the base of the jig is aluminum and the drill bit guide sleeve is steel. After using the jig for two holes the base and the sleeve were fused together. It would be better if they used all steel construction, as it would be tougher, heavier, and likely prevent the two different metals from fusing. Also, use oil. This thing can get hot even after two holes in hard woods. Don't get crazy, but definitely apply a drop or two of oil for each inch or so you drill out. On a positive note: the drill bit itself is decent. It's concentric, well balanced, a good length, and sharp enough to get the job done. The brad point is also a win. Overall, not bad, but could be better. I will likely forgo the jig and just use the drill bit with my drill press in the future.

A little patience goes a long way!
This product works well but has a slight design flaw that users may not experience unless drilling into very hard wood. The drill bit and collar are made of two different metals. The drill bit and collar will heat as you drill, this causes the two metals to change slightly in size. The result is the bit will jam in the collar. Even slight left or right variations will cause this effect to be more pronounced. Best practice is to drill in short bursts and let the rig cool before pressing on. Especially imporant when drilling into wood with heavy tar content as this complicates the problem by plugging the collar with wood shavings and tar. Knowing this in advance and taking proper steps to let the product cool, and clearing the drill more often you can easily avoid the issue. Should you get stuck, let it cool on its own, give the drill a little wiggle, and it will release.

Made my floating shelves possible!
I bought this tool plus the matching heavy duty hanging shelf brackets in order to hang some heavy shells in my kitchen. Because of the way, the two by fours were behind the wall I was only able to put three brackets per shelf. And as you can see in the picture, the shelves that I hung up or very heavy wood. one big concern that I had was that the shelves with sag once they put them up so when I installed the brackets, I install them at a 1° slant so the weight of the shelves would make them level once they were actually hung. I am very pleased with the product. The drill bit was extremely sharp and worked really well. The Brackets are very sturdy.

Buen producto

A must-have for the evald shelf brackets
Another must have is a drill press. Granted, I did use 1.5” thickness boards while the instructions clearly ask for 1.7” of thickness. However, I think had I had a drill press (and clamping jig to keep my shelves perpendicular), 1.5” would have been fine.
