The Art Spirit

This book has so many gems of wisdom, I can't even read it straight through. I'll get through a few pages, then have to stop and let it sink in for a few days before I can continue. Beautiful insight into what it means to be an artist. A must read for any artist who wants to further understand their role in the world, or for an art lover who wants to understand the lifetime of dedication and soul-searching artists truly endure to bring their work to the world.

I will only say...I have had a copy of The Art Spirit since I was at University...I own four copies dating back three decades...that certainly says it all for anyone who is an aspiring artist...it is filled with knowledge that has never become obsolete.....Robert Heni at his best...It is a must have in your studio....bookshelf and bedside table...it is a classic....you will not be disappointed.....

This work tries to provide a "sense" or "feel" for art, rather than technical instruction on how to draw or paint. It is more about artistic sensibility than technique. In this sense it might not appeal to all readers, but I found it very interesting. The author was an important teacher of art in the early part of the 20th century and a member of the Ash Can school of art.

I started reading the book and noticed that pages 59-62 are missing. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the binding; they are just missing. I am disappointed and didn't discover this until the return time had lapsed. I have no idea if other books are printed the same way, but it would be good to ask before purchasing.

The thoughts and insights Henri shares in this book are invaluable and worthy of five stars. My only issue is that both the copies I’ve been shipped thus far are missing pages 59-62. I’m returning this and purchasing a different edition from another publisher.

Easy to read for older eyes. Lots of white space. Thank you. Every thought is separate from every other thought. Well done.

I am new to painting and now love to talk about painting with artists.This book was mentioned as a pick up anytime, anywhere book of inspiration.Yes it is.I bought a used copy, published in 1960, there was the nicest inscription from a previous purchaser to an artist friend.It was signed "J"Thanks J,I love the book
