The Rosetta Stone French Level 1 and 2 set combines the content found in Level 1 and Level 2 to take you from no knowledge of the language to advanced proficiency -- in one easy purchase. Rosetta Stone is self-contained and intuitive to use. There are no complicated lists to memorize or handbooks to read. With Dynamic Immersion, you can start learning immediately. Join NASA, Fortune 500 executives, U.S. diplomats and millions of learners worldwide in discovering the fastest way to learn French. And what exactly is Dynamic Immersion? Studies show that learning exclusively in the new language -- without translation as a crutch -- is crucial if you want to communicate. Grammar drills and rote memorization never develop this skill. Dynamic Immersion helps you think in the new language and quickly develops the language skills and structures you need to for everyday communication. Rosetta Stone teaches French through a step-by-step sequence of carefully structured Dynamic Immersion lessons. New words become associated with familiar objects, actions, and ideas. Words build to phrases and sentences in a systematic progression. The Dynamic Immersion method reconnects people to the language skills they used successfully to master their first language. With Rosetta Stone, you start from a position of strength -- your own strength. First, Rosetta Stone allows you to learn through context. The software presents a carefully chosen selection of four images and asks you to select the image that matches the written text and the voices of native speakers. Building on the knowledge you've already gained and your intuitive grasp of the meaning of each picture, you make a choice. There's absolutely no translation or memorization to hold you back, so you start making progress immediately. Next, Rosetta Stone offers immediate reinforcement. The very second you complete a task, the software provides feedback. Speak a word and our unique voiceprint technology automatically rates your pronunciation. Connect an image with a phrase and you'll immediately learn if your choice was correct. Complete a set of exercises and you'll instantly know how well you did. With Rosetta Stone, you always know where you stand. Recognizing that dynamic immersion is a continuous process, Rosetta Stone also employs a systematic sequence that gradually incorporates new words, phrases, and more complex grammar as it reinforces existing learning. As a result, your understanding of your new language grows naturally. Levels 1 and 2 includes more than 8,000 real-life images and phrases in 210 lessons, as well and an average of 450 hours of instruction depending on your learning style. Rosetta Stone also incorporates a balanced curriculum including listening comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as speech recognition for accent perfection. The program's systematic structure teaches vocabulary and grammar naturally, without lists and drills, and there are previews, exercises, and tests for every lesson with automated tutorials. Rosetta Stone's lessons will quickly get you up to speed on a wide range of language topics, including directions; affirmative and negative verb forms; food, eating, and drinking; family relationships; direct objects; telling time; shapes, colors and locations; greetings and conversations; travel, transportation, and transactions; shopping and dining; and much, much more.

Blows the competition out of the water!
Nothing I've seen comes close to this program. It's an entirely different level. But do yourself a favor before shelling out the $300. Go to the rosettastone.com web page and ask for a demo cd. They'll send you a sample with every language they offer included. It gives you a very good sense of what it's all about.

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. YOU CAN NEVER SELL IT. IT DOESN'T DEAL IN TOURISM LANGUAGE TRAINING
I TRIED TO SELL THIS ON eBay, BUT AD WAS REMOVED AT STANDING REQUEST OF ROSETTA STONE. ROSETTA STONE CLAIMS THAT THEY OWN THE SOFTWARE, AND YOU PAY TO BORROW IT PERMANENTLY. IT'S CRAZY, BUT THAT'S WHAT THEY TOLD ME WHEN I PHONED THEM TO COMPLAIN. WORSE, THE LESSONS DO NOT GIVE YOU ANY INFO THAT WOULD HELP YOU AS A TOURIST.JUST AFTER I BOUGHT IT, I STOPPED AT THEIR KIOSK AT WASHINGTON NATIONAL AIRPORT ONE DAY AND TOLD THE SALESMAN THAT....HE SAID, "OH THAT'S IN THE LEVEL THREE. YOU HAVE LEVELS 1-2."IT'S A RIPOFF. I AM LEARNING GERMAN AND DOING VERY WELL AFTER ONE YEAR BY USING duolingo.com IT IS FREE AND VERY EFFECTIVE. DO NOT BUY ROSETTA STONE, PERIOD!

Not worth it.
This program will definitely teach you some vocabulary, but is HORRIBLE at teaching you the structure, the grammar of a language. For instance, you will be exposed to a picture of a horse about to jump and the spoken line would be "Le Cheval va saute" The key being "va" signifies something that has not happened yet. Beautiful, fantastic! BUT we never get to put "va" into concrete terms. It remains forever in our minds a mysterious word that SIGNIFIES the future. However if we knew that "va" meant "is going" we derive the same meaning from the exercise, BUT we can use "va" in other more extensive conversations!Multiply that little problem by EVERY single thing about grammar that this program attempts to teach and you see the problem.Furthermore french grammar is the heart of the language, it is much more complex than its english counterpart. For example"He is (insert verb here)" is different from"I am (insert verb here)"In english only "is" and "am" changed, but in french THE VERB itself has a different spelling, sometimes different end sound, and sometimes a different sound altogether. For French we need a language teacher not a collection of pictures and our own wits.Rosetta stone and pimsleur are by far the most overrated language programs on the market. My recommendation- pass on this pile of crap and get Michel Thomas Basic 8 CD French Course instead, you will learn a LOT more. Buy this ONLY if you want to get a little vocabulary learning in.

A bit overpriced
Overall the Rosetta Stone language program is very good. Arguably it is the best that's out there. You can read the other reviews and get a feel for the features of the program; You can also visit their website. What you need to know:You will pay a lot of money for this program, this is what you get: 1) An install/application disc which is the base program. This disc is the same disc that will come in all the Rosetta Stone programs. They are interchangeable. 2) You will get one CD that holds all the data for French One and Two. 3) You will get two workbooks, one for level I and the second for level II. Basically these workborks are a verbatum index of what is presented on the software. I would be surprised if you use them, in fact you can get better workbooks from your local bookstore for less than $15. Summary: You are getting one CD of data and two cheap workbooks for a good bit of money. THAT IS IT!Finally, as the Fairfield lawyer explained to me, if you are not an authorized dealer, do not try to resell their software espicially on Ebay. If you don't like the software after you purchase the software, give it away or throw it away but don't sell it on Ebay. To do so would violate Fairfield's copyright. I learned the hard way when my Ebay item was removed.Recommendation: 1) Shop around 2) Request a free demo CD from their website, know exactly what you are buying 3) Shop around again

Easy To Use But You Must Be Disciplined
This is a great program to start learning French with. It is quite extensive with many types of lessons that help build a comprehensive vocabulary. The approach to learning a new language with Rosetta Stone is different than anything I've seen before and really seems to work. The only thing I would say about this is you need to apply yourself because otherwise... like anything, you won't succeed.
