Daniel Smith 285650103 Extra Fine Inspirational Solid Watercolor Paint Set of 12 Half Pans, Metal Case and 12 Empty Containers

I absolutely love Daniel Smith watercolors. They are the best professional quality of watercolor paints I own. They wet easily, flow easily from a watercolor brush, blend easily and easily a fantastic value. I loved that the large variety of colors in this set came in half pans inside a metal case. The cases are very sturdy and hold up extremely well. Whether using small 5ml tubes of paint, half pans of paint or paint from the largest 15ml tubes, painting with Daniel Smith watercolors is a very big pleasure and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a wide assortment of professional grade watercolors. I also love the sample dot cards have dots of actual watercolor applied to watercolor paper and allowed to dry and be shipped to customers to try samples of this watercolor paint. A little of this paint goes a very, very long way.

I have been wanting to try these for a long time so when they went on sale I decided it was time. They are as good as expected. The colors are beautiful with great pigment. The pans are not filled quite to the top but there is plenty of paint in there. A little paint goes a long way. If you are looking for a quality paint, give these a try.

At the time that I purchased this set, I also purchased another professional set of watercolors that had more traditional colors, so this was a great addition to that set. I thought that the price was fair, but I did get it during a time when many art products had great sales. I saw some comments in regard to size of the pans. I'm discovering that there's no standard pan shape, and it's difficult to tell how much you are getting in each manufacturer's pan set. I know that even small tubes can fill a half-pan 2-3 times, so you have to decide which is better for you. I have used the DS tubes before. In fact, that was my very first set of professional watercolors. I haven't ever tried to work with only fresh out of the tube paint, and I've always found good colors easy to rehydrate. I love the lavenders and roses in this set. It's wonderful for painting shadows in landscapes or florals. This is also a great way to sample colors when you might decide to replace with a tube later. That's the beauty of professional paints--you don't have to replace the entire set when you run out of your favorite color!

Very colorful

Pans were not filled all of them to the same level, one of them was quite low, pans are small(er) than other professional brands, some were not attached to the container, fell off... Overall good quality paints and nice range of colors, but Daniel Smith costs a lot of money so we would expect these things not to happen. Paint quality is a 5, but due to what I mentioned earlier downgraded the review to 3.

So far like the colors in this set, paint seems to be quality but this is the first quality Artist grade paint I have tried.
