A Must for all Flintlock Musket Collectors
I agree completely with the previous reviewer - this book needs to be reprinted! Its great value to collectors is shown by the current high prices for used copies. At first glance this book might seem to be of interest only to collectors of American shoulder arms, but because muskets from so many different countries saw service in North America during the colonial period and American Revolution, this book is actually an excellent source of information about a wide variety of 18th-century European muskets. And the book is much more than simply a collection of technical information about the muskets; the author also provides lots of history about arms purchases and use in the colonies. The individual guns are all very well photographed, with a number of photos of each gun to illustrate key features. There are also very detailed technical descriptions with exact measurements. In short, this is everything you need to identify that unknown 18th-century musket being offered at your local garage sale or in an internet auction.I recommend this book very highly to anyone interested in 18th-century flintlock muskets, either European or American.

The most comprehensive book on the subject
This book is the most comprehensive book on the subject of flintlock shoulder arms of the American colonial period. First it provides ample background and then chapter by chapter provides information obtained from examining original weapons. Then provides additional information.A must have for anyone interested in the period.Definately needs to be put back into print to be made more available.
