MariaDB Crash Course 1st Edition

I wonder the style, though it's brief you will find all necessary info to kickstart working with MariaDB. Esp. if you have some basics of MySQL. The rest (thorough reference, details) you can find elsewhere.

I have notices a trend in tech books. They are being written in conversational English.Ben Forte is a great instructor.MariaDB is the successor to MySql and most conventions are similar to MySQL. That makes this book even more useful.His teaching method works.He defines a term. Shows its use, and then describes why it happened. The examples do not require that you go sequential order.As your skills develop and you make your start as a Data Base Administrator, this is a great first step.

I felt that some things were worded oddly and/or not explained clearly. I think he was trying to make things too simple in those cases. This is more of a tutorial book where you're not going to see rigorous definitions or something like an operator precedence chart, and I usually feel like a little bit of that sort of thing can go a long way. I feel like Learning Perl is probably the ideal balance in a tutorial-style book. However, I don't feel like this was a major drawback, as you can (and most definitely should) load up his example database, type in the examples, and read the online documentation to clarify things a bit.Overall, I would recommend it, and will be keeping it on my bookshelf, so to speak.

If you know MySQL, then this book is not helpful at all. I hoped for discussions in particular on the various storage engines, and there was basically nothing. The book is nothing more than a basic reference.

El libro venía un poco en mal estado, pero supongo que ha sido cosa del empaquetado y transporte, no culpa del vendedor.El contenido de este libro es perfecto si te estás iniciando en las bases de datos relacionales SQL (MySQL o MariaDB) o si necesitas una guía de referencia o refrescar conocimientos.El contenido está muy bien estructurado y explicado con buen detalle y ejemplos. Provee de diversos métodos de comprobación y alternativas para realizar lo mismo.Extremadamente recomendado aunque no vayas a usar MariaDB especificamente. 10/10

Too Basic

Molto scorrevole e pratico.Senza essere un reference manual, non è il suo scopo, permette di prendere confidenza rapidamente con MariaDB senza perdersi sulle singole opzioni.Un po' troppo spazio all'inizio, per i miei gusti sull'SQL; per chi lo ha giá studiato a scuola è un di più.Nello spirito del libro, avrei dato invece più spazio, anche un solo capitolo introduttivo, alla gestione di clusters/ridondanza/repliche.

Ich habe, da keine entsprechende deutsche Literatur verfügbar ist/war, dieses in englischer Sprache verfasste Buch auf Gut Glück gekauft. (Ich beherrsche Englisch/EDV-Englisch ganz passabel, bin aber kein Muttersprachler) Und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht.Da ich mich seit kurzem mit der MySQL-Fork "MariaDB" befasse, wollte ich, trotz SQL-Kenntnissen, ein Buch dass sich ausdrücklich mit dem Dialekt von MariaDB befasst.Was mir beim Lesen immer wieder auffiel, war, dass Ben Forta immer dann mit einer Antwort "umd die Ecke am", wenn sich bei mir, während des Lesens eine Frage auftat. Forta hat sich offensichtlich beim Schreiben immer wieder gefragt, "welche Frage könnte der Leser jetzt stellen".Ausserdem ist mir die klare Gliederung und die schnörkellose Sprache aufgefallen. Hier wollte ein "EDV-Autor" sein Wissen vermitteln und nicht zeigen "wie schlau er ist".Mit zwei Sätzen: Ich freue mich, auf dieses Buch gestossen zu sein; auch vor dem Hintergrund, dass "MariaDB" wohl immer mehr Anwender findet.(z.b.: Wikipedia seit Ende 2012)

Ich hatte bisher dBASE plus und powershell programmiert und bin nun "gezwungen" von dbf (Borland-Database-Enginge) zu einer anderen Datenbankmanagement-Software zu wechseln. Dieses Buch ist wirklich von einem Profi für Anfänger und leicht Fortgeschrittene geschrieben. Alle Kapitel sind übersichtlich und mit Beispielen dargelegt. Man kommt zu einem grundlegenden Verständnis von SQL und mariaDB. Ich bin froh, daß es diese Buch gibt. Der Umstieg auf mariaDB wird mir dadurch wesentlich erleichtert.
