Works as described. Tested voice activated mode and found it starts recording when sound (voice) detected and stops recording a second or two after sound stops and goes back into standby mode until another sound is detected. TEST: walked away for 5 minutes after initial (sound) voice detected and came back and triggered again with another sound (voice). Stopped recorder and checked recording and confirmed it stopped recording in between sounds as expected.Continuous recording mode continuously records as expected.Not done long extensive voice activated or continuous recording yet but so far meets my requirements. Easily picks up sound (voice) 15-20 ft away. Quality of sound playback is pretty clean but may need some gain(+) adjustments in post processing of audio file (WAV) to better hear when at further distancesProcedure (using external line control) somewhat of a pain to switch recording modes between voice activated and continuous but easily accomplished closely following directions provided and stays in selected mode until changed again with external line control. A simple switch on the device to switch between recording modes (voice activated and continuous) would have been far more intuitive. ***Don't lose the manual or external line control as you will need them for usage reference and device control.Great multi-use device. Can serve as portable battery charger for phone, recording device and MP3 player for music (loaded over 600 songs from my playlist) which can be played directly from device using line control buttons and provided headphones. *Random MP3 play option mode when in music mode would be a great addition to product as music files only play in sequential order as presently designed.Strong built in magnet securely attaches device to metal surfaces.Headphones provided pretty decent quality.Pretty happy with purchase thus far as it meets my needs.

My husband and I, had been having some major issues in our marriage. I was fully convinced he was having an affair. I planted this little device under his seat to catch him once and for all. The VAR is amazing. It caught every single word said. It would start recording as soon as he sat in the seat, and started his truck. It even kept recording when he got in and out of his truck while making stops. In one recording. I heard him dropping off my children. Then, his phone notifications going off repeatedly. I continued listened heart beating fast, then I heard it "Your so sexy". My stomach dropped. I heard more voices. Both men and women. I of course, confused kept listening. I was a dang video. I got audio after audio, it was a pattern. What I thought was an affair. Ending up being an addiction to the hub. If you want to catch anyone. This is device for you. There are no blinking lights when on. It has a strong enough magnet to be placed directly under the driver seat. The battery is fantastic. Put in on voice activated. Charge it once a month. It recorded over 30 minutes at a time. I wasn't happy with the results I found. We got the issue addressed. The addiction has ceased. 100% saved my marriage. The issue was finally admitted. All in all, trusts your gut.

I use my recorder for home invasion prevention but o have two units snd the small black cord that controls everything went out on both units around the same time.

I loved this thing when I first got it, the sound was awesome, the battery is great, and it worked for planting it where I needed it. I remember getting the feel for the controls and then being able to access the files on my PC to see all the recordings. In fact, it even helped me settle an argument with my wife because we didn't know it was recording (I was right, she was wrong LOL). But now it's been a while and I needed to use it again and it will not connect to my computer and all I can do with the little usb controls is either listen to what's on there or delete EVERYTHING, which was really frustrating. I was actually going to order another one but now I want to return the one I got. I have no idea where the user manual is and there's no way to remember the controls if you don't use this regularly. But now it just doesn't connect to the PC and I have no idea how to factory reset it.So, the file system doesn't work and the magnet is not "strong". That's a relative term, but it needs to be stronger if you're going to attach it to anything that moves. It's not that strong.I would definitely try a different device first, but if I can find some support for this I may update the review.

This is a very tiny recorder. That said it picks up voices really well. The only thing I had a problem with is the fact hat being so small, there is a lot of info packed onto the screen. The manufacturer should include a diagram of what everything means. They show and describe the buttons but that's it. I was about to throw it away when I think I finally figured it out. I knew I had set it to record on 2 different days. Yet I saw (with a magnifying glass)that I had 18 recordings. Being voice activated, every time it would start recording again after a silence, it would list it as a new recording even if it was just a few minutes. The digital life isn't as good as the ones with batteries.

Hi, I thought I'd give this a try. This isn't a bad item, it WORKS WELL, when I used it a few times. It is just that I haven't used it all that much, since I usually use other recording options. I haven't really been able to test the battery life , since I got this. (In all fairness, it's not your product, it's just that I've been too busy to go there, as I just finished my college certification, & I did a lot of handwriting for notes as my method at the time.) The 4 stars is because it isn't as easy to use with all the tiny buttons, & small digital read out window display isn't as compatible with strained vision...That's just my opinion. However, it is still great for time stamping recorded material, so I STILL recommend purchasing it.

Current price point of cdn$70 WAY TOO HIGH for the sound quality. The packaging could allow this to be a wonderful product, but they seemed to go cheap with the microphone, amp, or ADC noise level. There's an audible hiss all the time, even when no sound is in the room. You can't hear quiet sounds because of the pervasive hiss. If they spent a couple more dollars on quality components they would have a winner. As it is, this product looks like pure profit for the manufacturer, rather than performance for the end user. I bought it to test for research, but would not buy another for that same purpose.There's only one slider switch, so it can be operated in the dark pretty easily.I got much better sound quality from a cheap MP3 player from Walmart w. voice record function.The microphone seems to be inside the USB port, in case you wanted to record sound from a particular spot. Maybe I can gut a USB connector and plug in the shell as a mike port.

Bought the recorder for the long battery life, but only lasts approx 100 hours not the 300 hours it advertises

I bought this device and make it work with all condition, I realized that's amazing device do work in an ideal way, if you don't care about VAR (voice auto-activated) then it's not that deference, you can buy any device in the market but if you worry about this feature then you should only buy this one, I tried all of them and found only this one has really this feature. Very accurate very sensitive good sound quality, sturdy body, highly recommend.

Not user friendly

Works great!! The encryption tool could possible still allow recording to existing folders instead of creating new ones though. It makes no sense to enrypt because it saves to the root folder beside the encrypt tool.
