ShinZuo Agarwood Aloeswood Incense Powder 300g

From what I understand Agar is supposed to smell. This has none, neither in the bag or when burning other than a small wood scent when burning. Acts as a great carrier for essential oils but burns/smolder pretty quickly. Half a teaspoon lasting maybe 15min.It is VERY powdery. Too much for my general taste. So much when I go to close the bag it flows like water and spills out the top.This is the best price for Agar I've found. But as I continue my incense journey something like wood pulp may be a better and cheaper substitute for this.

The amount is accurate, it ships quickly and arrives on time. I was expecting more of a fragrant powder but to be honest, there is NO fragrance at all from the powder by itself. Now, if you TREAT this powder and blend it with more fragrant powders then I suppose this makes a good neutral base if you are making your own incense. However, even after immersing a sample of this powder into 95% alcohol (Pure Grain Alcohol) for 15 hours, still NO scent whatsoever is detected even in the extraction. This leads me to conclude that this could very well just be a Makko powder or , at best, post-distilled Agarwood powder which is a leftover (and very unscented) byproduct of Agarwood hyro or steam distillation where the Oud oil (the fragrant and active part) is essentially removed and harvested for high grade Parfum ingredients. This review is for the benefit of others who are considering purchasing this and who might be lead to believe this is scented, IT IS NOT. This is an unscented post-distillation BYPRODUCT of an Oud extraction and absolutely NO essences or residual scent is left in this powder. Even if you try a solvent extraction, you will get nothing. All in all, for unscented powder that likely doesn’t have any other alternative uses, in my opinion, it’s kind of a rip-off. Buyer beware.

This is REALLY nice! The scent is rich and complex and SO beautiful. This should be WAY more expensive than it is. The powder form is not for those who don't have knowledge of how to burn it. It is however quite easy, and should not deter you.
