Excellent purchase !
Excellent book also used in China when TCM physicians enter medical school according to my TCM OMD doctor. Very difficult to get out of the habit of treating the disease though !

As a practitioner of Chinese medicine, I find this book an excellent source of information and a good reference guide to help understand how Chinese medicine works from a theoretical perspective as well as from the practice point of view. It would be advisable to have previous knowledge of this topic or read other material on the basics of Chinese medicine since the book does assume that you are already familiar with certain principles in a broader sense. Each topic is condensed and thorough but not heavily detailed. Other books that would fill the void are Acupuncture A Comprehensive Text by Dan Bensky, The Web That Has No Weaver by Kaptchuk or Complete Book of Acupuncture by Chang.

A great text for learning Traditional Chinese Medicine;
I am learning to do Traditional Chinese Medicine and medicinal qigong right now, and I got this four text series to supplement what I have been learning from the course. These books are great. I recommend them for anyone with an interest in these subjects. This particular book makes the foundations of the process very clear, and does so in a way that is easy for westerners to understand.
