Finally! A worthy subwoofer
Finally found a worthy subwoofer for my man-cave. The room is 12x13 ft with 11 foot ceilings. I've had 3 subs in this room so far that I didn't like.SVS SB2000, Velodyne 80-MINIVEE and Definitive Technology SC6000 .The 12 inch SVS (500 W RMS / 1,100 peak) was clean and deep but not powerful or loud enough and the box was already quite big so their SVS 13 inch and 16 inch subs wouldn't fit space wise in this room. It sounded better than the more expensive Def Tech. The 8-inch Velodyne didn't go low enough or have enough power (even though specs said it was 1000 watts RMS, 2000 W peak). I don't believe these figures after hearing KEF.The Definitive 9-inch sub had power (1500 W) but was very dirty and boomy. I could't stand it. KEF R400b Front Firing Powerful Subwoofer - High Gloss Piano Black (Single) Finally, the twin-9 inch (2 x 500 W) R400b KEF has the sound I was looking for: clean, tight, powerful bass. It sounds great with music and movies. If the room was bigger, I'm sure I would need 2 of these, but one is sufficient for this small room. I can feel the bass more with this one than either of the previous 3 subs mentioned. The box size is smaller than the SVS and about the same as Definitive. It's amazing how good this sub is for the size. Granted, it is more expensive (paid $1699) than all the previous ones (at the time I paid $699 for Velodyne, $699 for SVS, and $999 for Definitive). I would have been better off to buy this one to start. There has been a learning curve in finding this high quality speaker company. I also recently replaced the Definitive side and centers for KEF speakers. KEF is amazingly good.

Compliments R200 and LS50s
KEF LS50s for the front and a R200 for the center; R100s for surround. Amazing looking sub but I couldn't justify the purchase at $1700. The current $1000 price is more in line with the performance, but you're getting the best looking sub on the market. I set the crossovers at 100 for the LS50s/R100s and left the R200 at 80. LPF LFE at 120.KEF's recommended settings on the sub measured initially at 80dB SPL, so I went a notch or two down to have it float around 75dB SPL.This sub doesn't vibrate even if it is shaking the entire room. Produces a really nice tone as well. I'm happy with the purchase at $1000.

You can’t find a better match for your LS50s
This thing is mind blowing, the bass is extremely tight and lends itself very well for music. I use this with a kef LS50 and bloody hell they sound good together. It blends seemlessly with the LS50 extending its low range with tightness and clarity. It is not a house rattling subwoofer, this is more finesse than pure power. For the LS50 set your crossover to 80hz this is where the LS50 response dips to less than +- 3Db and beyond this the LS50 dips to +- 6Db.

Very Nice Subwoofer for Music
I originally had a problem with the subwoofer, but it was set on 220V-240V operation. After I figured that out, it has been working great to give my system extra bass for my 2 channel audio setup. The subwoofer looks very high quality to boot.

Great sounding and great looking.
I wanted a musical sub that looks not like a large black box. Something that is compact and wife-friendly. Surprisingly hard to find. Mostly tiny black box with tiny woofers that doesn't go low or loud enough, or big boomy subs meant for home theater applications. The Kef r400b is tiny. Only about 14 inches cube. I got the glossy white, with the silver line accent strip, which visually breaks up the sub making it look smaller and very elegant. If you have a LFE or sub out, hook up is just as easy as plugging in an RCA cable. If for what ever reason you're using speaker level input, it's a pain. You have a screw down terminal that looks like it belongs on a PC board and not a sub. Probably no big deal, but most people run thick speaker wires, which doesn't look like it'd fit. The controls are the usual. Cross over freq, volume, phase, power.I'm pleased with the sound of this sub. I wanted a tight sub that goes low without distortion. This fits the bill. I'm not a bass head but I did turn it up for the sake of evaluation. My room is 15 x 22 ft. At mid way, it's plenty loud. I have no doubt that unless you like to use your subs to induce bowel movement, this is plenty. I've not experimented much with placement. I have it a foot from my main and about 6 inches from the back wall and I'm really happy with the sound.Overall, I think it's a fantastic subwoofer. Small, good looking, low distortion and powerful for it's size.

Compact Size. Powerful ,Smooth
Well let me start by saying this sub is a gem of a subwoofer. If you need a sub to go along with your KEF LS50W this should be one of your top picks if you feel the two monitors don't kick out enough bass which I feel as they already do, grab the R400B . It's also great for movies if you need that extra rumble and punch and this sub delivers with the two 9-inch drivers. Oh and by the way the guy who gave this sub of 1 star rating you can never ever find it at a thrift store, being that this model is only a few years old, he or she probably have never even owned or seen one of these fake reviews.

KEF R400b/LS50 combination
First off, it’s not a front firing sub, it’s a dual driver sub that fires from the sides. Mated with the KEF LS50 is killer. The KEF Cubes are ok but the R400b is a serious hi-end product. Not sure how close I’m getting to Blade territory but it’s sure impressive. Because of its design it’s easy to place in-room once settings are dialed in which isn’t bad either. $1300 for the sub + $1000 for the speakers, add good stands, and you are there. A fantastic 2.1 monitor/sub combo system.
