Nutone PurePower 550 Air Watts Central Vacuum System Power Unit (PurePower 5501)

Our CV-353 started loosing power and it was well over 20 years old, so we decided to replace it. It wasn't much to change out, thanks to Nutone, the support screw holes on the old one were the same for mounting the bracket on the new one. There is a little pipe work, so order what you need First! The suction is better than when the 353 was new. Turned it on and heard something come thru the piping into the unit. It was a dryer sheet and misc dog hair, the cause of our reduced suction on the old one. The Vac in my shop just got upgraded, the old one has a new life.I have noticed the exhaust piping gets a little warm after running for a while. Did not go HEPA filtration since it is exhausted outside. Now I have two working Nutone units! By the way I had checked the piping before my purchase and could not find any blockages, but the new one cleared it!

This unit replaced a nine-year-old VX475 that was on its second motor. This 6501 is much quieter than the old unit. Amazon gets zero stars for shipping. The box it comes in has thin walls and almost no protection. See the attached photo. The mounting bracket was bent and gave up its life to protect the unit. Fortunately our existing wall bracket was identical so I didn't need it. I am hoping Nutone improved their reliability and maybe the warranty reflects that (8 years parts, 5 years labor). I had to extend the plastic pipe which I got from a local dealer. Be advised the the Nutone 2 inch, outside diameter pipe is NOT the same as the typical schedule 40 PVC pipe at your local home improvement store. Thanks.

I'm so glad we decided to change out our old unit and upgraded to this. My husband installed himself, the tricky part was the PVC is a unique size, it had to be ordered specifically for this unit otherwise it was no problem. I love the power, we love how quiet it is.I suspected our old Nutone unit wasn't doing as well as I had remembered when we built the house 17 years ago so we upgraded, had I any idea how much better this new, powerful unit would be we would have done this a year ago.

This is a replacement for a prior Nutone vacuum. The old one never ever worked good and finally guit. It was made of all plastic and most of the plastic deteriated and cracked. And finally the electronics quit working. This model is predominately metal and hopefully the electronics have been updated.

Not only is this Nutone PurePower 7001 much quieter than my previous Nutone unit (that was 16 years old) but has considerable more suction powder. Only time will tell about low long it will last but I am very pleased with it.

We replaced our 30 year old Nutone vac with the Nutone Purepower 550. The install made use of existing piping on first/second floor making it very easy to upgrade. It seems to provide enough vacuum to meet our needs.

This motor was a replacement motor for our central vac system that lasted 15 years. This new motor is MUCH quieter than the original. The only problem we had with it was the new motor’s pipe configuration is different from the original motor’s so we had to buy a piece of flexible pipe to get it set up correctly. Three stars on installation—there was no installation kit that we could find to buy.
