Highly recommended; they really do only cut paper & they cut it well!
My (almost) 3 year old daughter is like a scissor magnet; she ALWAYS seems to find scissors no matter where we put them. Since preventing her from using them only seemed to promote her curiosity, I bought these scissors. They are pretty easy for her to use & the glittery colors are appealing! She no longer goes for my scissors because they aren't as tempting anymore now that she has her own. Teaching her to cut, I make the snip, snip, snip sound with each cut, & compared to other child scissors I have used (I am an Early Childhood Educator), I noticed these seem to make that exaggerated snip, snip, snip sound as you cut with them. I also think it's nice that the pack comes with a child-safe version of pinking shears. I tested these scissors before giving them to my daughter, & (in my experience) they don't cut skin, hair, or clothes, as promised by Melissa & Doug. Other than that, the best thing about these scissors (more so the traditional straight line-cutting pair) actually cut paper well. I don't know how many times in my classroom I have had to cut something out with a typical pair of safety scissors, and ended up regretting it because they tear vs cut, if even that. With these scissor, I haven't had that happen yet.

AWESOME safety scissors! The best I've found EVER!
I have looked in stores for years for safety scissors that were ACTUALLY safe for my children to use. I've never had any luck until I finally thought to search online for some and found these here on Amazon and they are amazing! We tested them on paper and they work perfect, but as the label claims, it does NOT cut skin, hair or anything that isn't paper...even if you run your finger along the edge or even really TRY to cut or scratch your skin, it won't.I tested it as harshly on myself as I could to make sure my children wouldn't hurt each other with them and it just blew my mind. They are very simple and cute.I also love that they came with 2 pairs! The blue ones are now my son's and the red ones are my daughter's. They love them and are learning to cut straight and everything.Thank you for such an awesome product! I have already recommended them to everyone I know. :-)

Pretty Good Little Scissors
I've been looking everywhere for scissors for my 2.5 year old. We've gathered about 9 different pair, each from different companies. Of all of them, the Melissa & Doug straight-cut scissors in this pack are my daughter's favorite, probably because they are the easiest for her to open/close, and because she likes the color/sparkle. They do a nice job cutting standard and construction paper, and they've not succeeded in cutting anything else (like my tableclothes or her hair). The "zig zag" shears are more difficult for her to work, as they tend to stick a bit. As a result, in her words, she finds the "zigs disappointing."After a month of regular use, the straight-cut scissors still work, although I am beginning to wonder whether the plastic will last much longer. If the ones we have do break, I would not hesitate to get another pair, although It would be nice if the straight-cut scissors were sold separately (perhaps they are and I just missed them).

Great First Scissor for Toddler!
I purchased these scissors for my daughter who is almost 3 years old. It took us a couple of days to find the grip that she was most comfortable with, which ended up being her middle and ring fingers in one hole and her thumb in the other. We tried cutting printer paper that had been colored with marker, but the paper was a little too flimsy for these scissors. The next day, we tried construction paper, and they worked very well! I think these are great for an introductory scissor with a sturdier paper like cardstock or construction paper!

Great for toddlers
We have been looking for some scissors for my almost 3 year old and all of the ones I looked at it the stores were like adult scissors with a rounded tip. I wanted something more toddler friendly that I wouldn't be paranoid of her hurting herself while using (always supervised of course). We are huge Melissa and Doug fans so when I saw they had scissors, I knew they would be great as are the rest of their items. They are made of plastic so I questioned how well they would cut. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they cut and that there is nothing sharp at all for her to hurt herself on. The blue scissors are a regular straight edge, while the red pair cut in a zig zag. Very happy with our purchase and would definitely buy them again.

Great First Set of Scissors
We bought this pair of scissors for our 2-year old who was wanted to use regular scissors for arts & crafts. Being a big fan of Melissa & Doug products we decided on this set of scissors. The fact that the scissors are completely plastic and the cutting surface is not sharp makes it great, especially if you have younger children around. The scissors do a great job of cutting through construction paper, but it will not cut through heavier paper objects like cardboard. You get two pairs of scissors, one which cuts straight and one that cuts a zig-zag pattern. I agree with other reviewers that the zig-zag scissors are a bit tougher to use.Overall if you are looking for a cheap, durable and safe first set of scissors then this set fits the bill perfectly.

Unable to be returned
I accidentally ordered 2 sets of these scissors. I went to return one set and discovered there are no returns. I should have looked before ordering. There are two other issues however. First, the blue pair is bent at the blade and so they don't work properly. Second, I specifically bought these because they said they were left hand friendly. I don't agree with this. Maybe it's just the warped blade but my little lefty struggles with these.

Child safe and sturdy
I was hesitant to buy my 2.5 year old scissors, but at his 3 year check up, they ask if he can use scissors. I tried to cut myself with these and I couldn't. I was pleasantly surprised they still cut paper. I feel very safe with my child using these (supervised). They feel much more sturdy than I would have expected as well. He's almost got the motion down, now he just needs to practice lining up the paper in-between the scissors!
