Product is old - does not specify that it has not been updated since 2012
There are multiple issues. Let me start with the good part. I was impressed by the level of documentation. This was one of the reasons I bought this product. Having said that, the documentation is outdated. here are the issues.1. I don't think it is certified for any of the newer routers.2. Their software has not been updated since 2012.3. The scan utility does not work4. Browsers do not recognize the device (chrome, edge, IE)5. Device does not have MAC address on the Case. You need to be a guru to figure this out.I would not recommend this product. For its price of $100, even though there is no competitive product, look for alternatives if you have are switching from a usb available router to a non usb availabe router. At this time, there may not be a market solution for a similar product.

CORRUPTS DATA
CORRUPTS DATA. I bought this NAS a year ago and have run it full-time since then. Yes, it's *very* slow over both SMB and FTP (even on a 1GHz net), too slow for interactive use of its disk files, so I have only used it for overnight backup jobs. Yes, it's flaky with NTFS disks, so I used the recommended XFS.But what makes this box, as Consumer Reports says, "Not Recommended": it quietly corrupts files. I run a backup program that reads back files to verify a good write. This passes. And then weeks later I'll find that a file is corrupted. The one that I analyzed had a block full of zero bytes. I thought it was only a problem copying between two attached disks so I removed one. But last week I found another corrupted file on the single attached drive. I have now stumped up the money for a replacement.Do Not Buy.

Easy setup - works well with Sonos
I got this primarily to hold my music library for my Sonos units. The 16 page user manual walks you through all the screens of the browser-based interface. I used to have a USB disc drive which plugged into my router, but my new ISP's router doesn't seem to support this functionality. Since the Addonics plugs into any ethernet spigot, there is no configuring of the router. I'm now using a 200GB USB memory stick as the NAS storage device, which plugs right into the Addonics box. Once set up, this drive shows up on the Network in Windows explorer. There are cheaper NAS adapters on Amazon, but this one seems to work well and was easy to get going.

Worked better than expected.
I was looking for a simple way to setup a file share on my home network. After searching for a reasonable solution and becoming frustrated with what was available, I happened upon the Addonics NAS 4.0 Adapter. I found it after a lot of searching on the web and it seemed to be the only solution available that was both reasonably priced and had the features I wanted. One of the main things I wanted was access using IP only as on my protected network I do not allow any microsoft networking including Client for Microsoft Networks and NetBios. This unit is compact, installs easily and performs extremely well. I have been using it for my file share for a couple of months and it has worked flawlessly.I can recommend it without reservation.

The sum of the whole is less than the parts
This (just barely) under $100 device is a real disappointment. l was trying to avoid the bulkiness and higher costs of other devices, but maybe you just get what you paid for (anybody surprised about that?).Things start dying under any kind of heavy Windows-based update load for USB3 devices (more than two high-volume update sessions at a time). Command-line data updates are lost for USB3 devices under heavy load as well. I can actually run upwards of 6 or 7 update sessions at a time from the command line using a proprietary assembler-based synchronization tool, but not everything actually makes it to the destination share on the Addonics 4.0 adapter. The Addonics device kinda acted like the old Netware network, telling the app files had been written when they were only in cache ... subsequent actual drive updates didn't always happen. When I keep the number of FTP-based update sessions to 2 or less for esata-based devices, I can actually push upwards of 160 Mbs a second over fairly protracted (6-12 hours) sessions, but as soon as I add a third session, things start to cough, jerk and hesitate, to the point that I end up with a max of 4Mbs a second total thru all of the active FTP update sessions, or the sessions beyond the first two actually die and go away. Used latest Filezilla for greatest success. Who knows? Maybe my Norton 360 antivirus product was at the heart of the problem - but I doubt it - in a previous setting where shared drives mounted on another Windows box were being frequently and heavily updated, that simply didn't happen. I think Addonics still has a lotta work to do.

This product is useless. I hooked it up and ran the discovery tool per instructions and after a few short hours the product quit working all together. The status light only flashes continuously and the web config page fails to display even after a reset. I rarely post a negative review, however this product deserves one. DO NOT PURCHASE this product. It is junk.
