Niles MSU250 Infrared repeater system hub

Previously I was using Russound products, an 854 SaphIR Table Top IR Receiver, 857 SaphIR Connecting Block. The Russound products were scrambling the IR commands, causing unusual results. When I would use the down arrow for my projector intermittently my Win 7 Media Center PC would shutdown. Also many times you would press a remote button and there would be no response. I tried both stick mouse emitters and the Niles IRB1 Flasher (flasher had less problems)I am now using the Niles MS220 IR Sensor, Niles MSU250 IR Repeater and IRB1 IR Flasher. All of my problems have been resolved and the remote IR system is working perfectly.

How sweet it is. Rack mount all your set top boxes in one place, the cable input. Run your HDTV signal to each monitor via HDMI or Ethernet and remotely control the set top box from the monitor location. Makes it a piece of cake to switch from Dish, to cable to fiber.

Purchased the NILES MSU250 from Huppins through Amazon. Unit was faulty and did not work. Contacted NILES and they gave me guidance on checking unit. It still did not work and they refused to replace it; offered to repair it for $75. Said Huppins was not an authorized dealer and ity would have to be returned to them. Very poor opinion of NILES based on my contact with them on a defective product of theirs!!

I bought this item paired with Niles' in wall IR receiver and micro-flashers. I haven't yet hooked up the second zone inputs to check how it functions when used to its fullest, but otherwise it is a solid, well built product. Good, easy to decipher instructions; easy to install, small footprint. Overall it seems to do a good job taking the signals from the receiver unit and passing them on to my components in the A/V closet, though I've found at some infrequent times that it misses signals (see below). I was pleased that, as suggested in my Oppo & Pioneer manuals, I was able to directly run a cable from the repeater to the IR in ports on those devices (ie. no flasher glued to the front of those components). My Pace Tahoe PVR is a bit sensitive with regard to control, and after some troubleshooting it seems that the (minor) electronic interference in the room combined with the Niles unit and flasher can sometimes cause reception errors. Overall, quite pleased, and the unit was worth the cost (which was slightly more than other products of lesser build quality).
